Packers vs Lions Same-Game Parlay Pick #1: Lions Alt Spread (-2.5)

First, I’m avoiding the current game line of -3 because no one wants a push! Who wants to see their parlay voided just because a team won by exactly a field goal? Instead, I’m moving the goalposts (pun intended) and taking a -2.5 alt spread.

The Lions are 9-3 ATS in 2024 and are 6-1 when laying five points or fewer as a favorite. In the games where they’ve covered the spread, Detroit has done so by 3.5 points or more eight out of nine times.

Compare this all against the Packers’ ATS record of 6-6 for the season – 2-3 away from home and 1-1 as road dogs – and taking Detroit to cover starts to make sense.

Packers vs Lions Same-Game Parlay Pick #2: First Half Over 24.5 Points

My reasoning for a high-scoring first half is three-fold: the Lions like to score early, the Packers also like to score early, and the Lions defense is beat up.

Detroit currently leads the league in first-half PPG at 18.5. That includes last week’s 16 points against Chicago, who you’d think Detroit should have pummeled but instead feel like a bogey team for the the Dan Campbell-era Lions. For that reason, I’d call last week’s result the exception and not the rule, particularly when it brings their three-game average down to 19.3.

Any results will look modest when compared to the highest scoring team in the league, but the Packers are no slouches when it comes to scoring early. Green Bay is currently averaging 14.0 1st Half PPG, averaging 16.0 in their last three games. I’m expect fireworks right from kickoff.

This screenshot, taken last night, isn’t my way of saying the Lions are going to roll over and die on defense. They’ve already made due without all those IR players (which I elaborate on below) and I don’t doubt they’ll have a game plan for the Packers. Having a full week off between two Thursday night games certainly helps.

But adding Malcolm Rodriguez and Mekhi Wingo to the IR before designating DJ Reader, Josh Paschal, and Levi Onwuzurike as Out for TNF will undoubtedly embolden the Packers to make moves. That’s why I’m banking on both teams to be aggressive early.

Packers vs Lions Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: Josh Jacobs 60+ Rushing Yards

I know I just finished talking about how the Packers “will be aggressive early,” but hear me out on why I’m going conservative on my Josh Jacobs leg of the parlay. Even when considering the Lions’ defensive injuries, there are reasons to be hesitant, particularly if you’re thinking of betting Jacobs’ O/U line tonight.

To his credit, Jacobs has hit 60+ yards in 9 of 12 games this season, while hitting 70+ in 8 of 12.  When his team is an away underdog, Jacobs career average is 75.4 YPG. This is exactly why his TNF O/U line of 69.5 looks so enticing.

However, Jacobs is considerably better when playing outdoors (76.2 YPG) than indoors (58.8 YPG), while his 2024 away underdog YPG is only 63.5.

Maybe Jacobs will light up the Lions for 90+ yards, like he did a month ago at Lambeau Field, but in the four games since the Lions have held opposing offenses to less than 100 rushing yards. That includes the likes of Joe Mixon (46 yds),  Jonathan Taylor (35 yds), and D’Andre Swift (39 yards), all of whom will likely hit 1,000 yards this season.

Again, that’s with a beat up Lions defense. It’s also worth noting that if Detroit takes an early lead, the Packers will likely take to the air to keep up.

Jacobs may be rounding into form right now, but the Lions’ rush defense continues to shine. I’m willing to hedge with a lower milestone total rather than the O/U wager.

Packers vs Lions Same-Game Parlay Pick #4: Amon-Ra St. Brown Anytime TD Scorer

After scouring social media, I feel like I’m bucking trends by not taking a running back for Thursday’s Anytime TD scorer, but in doing so we can bring in a quality plus-money pick pick for the fourth leg of the parlay.

Yes, the Lions score a lot of rushing touchdowns. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combining for 21 TDs (not to mention almost 1,700 yards) in 12 games is borderline insanity. As for the Packers, a lot of bettors are honing in on Jacobs & the depleted Lions defense.

Any of those three players are quality TD options, but I believe there’s money in taking Amon-Ra St. Brown in this spot for a few reasons.

St. Brown is currently fourth in receptions, first in receiving first downs, and, most importantly, tied for second in receiving TDs. He’s just one away from a career high for TDs in a season (10) and has five games to get there. Three of his career thirty receiving touchdowns have come against the Packers.

To be fair, the Packers don’t give up a lot of touchdowns, particularly this season as they currently sit tied for 10th and 12th in rushing and passing TDs allowed, respectively. Since 2019, Matt LaFleur’s defenses have given up 1.39 passing TDs per game, compared to just 0.92 rushing TD/G.

However, those passing TD averages go up when the Packers are playing as underdogs (1.52 TD/G) or when playing in a dome (1.76 TD/G).

These aren’t huge numbers when compared to league averages, but are still significant enough when it comes to the potential plan of attack for the Lions. It’s enough of an edge for me to look to St. Brown to score Thursday night.

Steelers vs Browns Same-Game Parlay Pick #1: Steelers -3.5

Without checking, I knew I’d be in the majority backing Pittsburgh tonight. But if you are curious about today’s NFL public betting trends, here they are: at -200, the Steelers are getting 99% of the moneyline handle and 92% of all moneyline bets.

And that’s why I’m looking at a spread play instead, where the Steelers vs Browns odds favor Pittsburgh by just -3.5.

First, Pittsburgh is 8-2 ATS in 2024, tied for best in the NFL. Conversely, the Browns are 3-7 ATS, good enough for fourth-worst in the league.

They’ve also just finished two weeks of tough football, stifling the elite offenses of Baltimore and Washington, whereas the Browns came out of a bye week and lost by three touchdowns to the 4-7 Saints.

Head-to-head, the Steelers are 7-3 ATS against the Browns in their last ten. It’s worth noting that the three losses were in Cleveland, just like how it’s worth noting those Steelers teams were led by Mason Rudolph, Mitch Trubisky, and Kenny Pickett. Take those losses with as many grains of salt as your doctor recommends.

Pittsburgh will be better on the short week and will construct a short-week game plan more effectively than Cleveland.

If you’re feeling daring, I’d even consider taking an alternate ATS line for the Steelers. For example, Pittsburgh is currently getting +133 to cover -6.5. That’s how confident I am in the Steelers on Thursday, or, if you’re a “glass half empty” type, how little faith I have in the Browns.

Steelers vs Browns Same-Game Parlay Pick #2: Russell Wilson 175+ Passing Yards

If I’m being honest, 175+ passing yards for Russell Wilson may be a little conservative, but I’m OK with going light here to build a winning parlay.

Despite the sample size, Wilson’s passing numbers with the Steelers are solid. He’s gone over 200 yards in three of his games and fell just short in the fourth. This includes 278 and 264-yard performances against the Giants and Jets, respectively the third and fourth-best passing defenses.

Sunday’s win was far from Russell Wilson’s best game as Steelers QB but these vertical sideline shots to George Pickens are a cheat code.

Respect where it’s due, the Browns defense can show up for games, even when they’re losing: they’ve held six teams to under 200 pass yards this season. Then again, those all came in their first six games, back when there was still hope in the building.

But the main reason I’m going with a lower passing milestone is the weather. Thursday night in Cleveland is looking to be cold and rainy.

It’s been nearly three years since Wilson played a 40-degree game in the rain, when he hung 236 yards and 4 TDs on Detroit, back when the Lions were terrible.

It may have been a typical windy, rainy PNW day, but the banks of Lake Erie are supposedly going to be windier and rainier Thursday night.

Pittsburgh will still throw the ball, it’s Russell Wilson after all, but I can’t imagine the Steelers will take to the air often against a team whose defense will show up for a divisional dogfight.

Steelers vs Browns Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: Najee Harris Over 17.5 Rushing Attempts

Who else will benefit from all that rain and wind? Najee Harris, that’s who! It’s one of those give-and-take things in the NFL: it’s scientifically proven that less passes lead to more carries.

And Harris will get plenty of opportunities with the rock tonight. Currently 6th in rush attempts with 175, while also posting 70.8 YPG, his numbers have only gone up with Wilson under center.

Over the last four games, Harris is averaging 19.75 A/G with Wilson as QB1, compared to the 16.0 in six games with Justin Fields under center.

A lower Y/A total won’t affect his number of carries, either, especially if coach Mike Tomlin wants to eat up the clock. Against Washington and Baltimore, arguably the worst and best rush defenses in the NFL this season, Harris respectively posted Y/A’s 2.5 and 3.5, while still netting 21 and 18 carries.

Oh, he also has zero fumbles this season. Tomlin will trust him with the rock in tonight’s soupy weather.

Steelers vs Browns Same-Game Parlay Pick #4: Steelers 1st Field Goal Made

Maybe I’m still impressed by the Pittsburgh needing all six field goals to beat the Ravens, but all of a sudden I’m feeling like a special teams prop bet is necessary.

For the season, Pittsburgh’s Chris Boswell is 29 for 30, making him No. 1 for FGM and No. 2 for FGA. On top of that:

• His only miss came from 62 yards!
• There’s only been one game this season where he didn’t kick a FG!
• He’s kicked the game’s first FG in his last four games!

Also worth noting is how the Steelers are currently sixteenth in the league in Red Zone Scoring Percentage (86.1% ), but are third-worst in RZ TD% (44.4%). They’re only average when it comes to red zone scoring because of Boswell’s prolific kicking.

In fairness, this leg of the SGP can arguably be called a coin flip, quite literally in fact, as it will be influenced by who wins the flip to start the game. But even if Pittsburgh “wins” and defers possession, they should be able to stop the first Cleveland drive and move the ball far more purposefully than the Browns.

By all means leave this one out of your parlay, as doing so will drop it to a 3-legged SGP totaling +455, but I’m going to keep it in for that deliciously sweet juice.

That’s why I’m again trusting my gut on how Commanders vs Eagles will play out for this week’s NFL SGP bet. I’m expecting a run-heavy, lower scoring game, but not without its share of red zone, “tush push” action. I know I’m in the minority with my first SGP leg: Commanders vs Eagles will not be high scoring. I know that doesn’t make sense since these two teams average 29.0 and 25.9 PPG, respectively, but hear me out.

First, it’s an understatement to say Washington and Philadelphia like to run the ball. Going into Week 11, the Eagles run game is first in attempts, second in yards, and second in TDs, while the Commanders are respectively third, third, and first in those categories.

None of this is surprising when the likes of Brian Robinson Jr., Austin Ekeler, Saquon Barkley, Jayden Daniels, and Jalen Hurts have their hands on the ball.

However, run plays eat up the clock, so the question becomes how effective will either team be on the ground. For Washington, that could become problematic when facing an Eagles defense that’s 5th in rush yards allowed, tied for 5th in TDs, and 2nd in Run Stop Win Rate.

I’m also not convinced that a Kliff Kingsbury offense will outduel a Vic Fangio defense. The two have never gone head-to-head directly, but the influence of their schemes have clashed. Twice, in fact, in 2022, and both times the Fangio-adjacent teams won.

Denver’s then-DC Ejiro Evero ran a defensive blueprint created by Fangio the year prior, and held Kingsbury’s Cardinals to 15 points and just 240 yards. Of course, that particular game featured Colt McCoy & Trace McSorley in the backfield. It’s a miracle Arizona got any points, let alone 15.

But when facing the highly-mobile Kyler Murray earlier that season, the Fangio-consulted Eagles also held Arizona to just 17 points and 363 yards.

This is my long-winded way of saying that Kingsbury offenses don’t run up the score against Fangio-adjacent defenses. Tonight, he gets Fangio and his deceptively complex schemes. If Philly is controlling the game on the ground, they won’t need to pile on the points, either.

Commanders vs Eagles Same-Game Parlay Pick #2: Jayden Daniels Completions Under 19.5

The Commanders’ rookie QB has been electric since Day 1, bringing renown back to the franchise overnight with his arm and his feet. It’s the latter that’ll incidentally impact this leg of the parlay.

Why do rush attempts matter? Just like in SGP Pick #1, the clock will constantly be running when the ball’s on the ground. Offensive opportunities will be limited. Who benefits in that scenario? The team that dominates possession.

In addition to leading the league in rushing attempts, the Eagles are also Top 4 for time of possession. In fact, Philly’s ball control is trending upward lately, averaging over 34 minutes per game over their last three, compared to a season average of 32:28.

Logically, if the Eagles have the ball more, Washington will have it less. And, again, the clock will always be running.

However, if Washington falls behind early, which I don’t see happening, only then will Daniels start firing from the pocket. Even if that’s the case, he’ll still have to contend with the Eagles’ second-ranked pass defense. That in itself will not be easy.

This isn’t to say Daniels will be ineffective in the pocket; instead, I think he’ll have fewer chances to shake things up.

And it’s not for nothing, but rookie starting QBs are 0-9-1 against the Eagles since 2016, while Fangio defenses are 6-2 against rookie starting QBs over the last 5 seasons.

Commanders vs Eagles Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: Jalen Hurts Anytime TD

I have no qualms with riding the current Jalen Hurts TD parade. It’s hard to go against a guy that cannot be stopped from one yard, especially when a touchdown is on the line.

After all, Hurts has eight rushing touchdowns in his last four games! If your mind wasn’t just boggled, go reread that last sentence.

In 99 red zone plays this season, the Eagles have put it on the ground 70 times, with 30 of those runs coming from Ol’ Jalen Two Shoes. That’s more RZ rush attempts than Barkley, their primary back.

Furthermore, all ten of Hurts’ TDs this season have come from inside the red zone; that’s ten touchdowns on just thirty runs! Only Barkley comes close with six RZ TDs, while four other Eagles have one RZ TD apiece.

Philadelphia unquestionably has big-time players, but when near the end zone, they may as well give it to Hurts and help shove him the rest of the way.

Last week’s Texans vs Jets SGP marked the second-straight TNF SGP that was so close I could taste it: Joe Mixon got his touchdown and Tank Dell grabbed his receptions. But Houston couldn’t bring home a win, despite getting 69% of the moneyline handle according to the NFL public betting percentages, meaning the SGP came up just short.

When the opening NFL Week 10 odds first came out, it didn’t take long for the Bengals vs Ravens line was just 47.5 points. As of Thursday morning, the Bengals vs Ravens odds show it as high as 53.5. Bettors love a deal when they can find one! But to move an O/U six points in just a few days can only mean one thing: these teams are really good at scoring.

After nine games, the Bengals and Ravens offenses respectively rank sixth and first in points scored and combined to score 79 points just over a month ago in Cincinnati. If that’s not statistical evidence, then I don’t know what is.

But wait, there’s more! The Ravens’ offense hasn’t just been good this year, they’ve been punishing: Baltimore has the second-best passing game and are first on the ground by nearly 250 yards.

The Bengals’ ground game isn’t nearly as rampant, but they do boast 2,127 passing yards, ranking sixth in the league. Both teams have also recorded 20 passing TDs so far, trailing only Tampa Bay’s twenty-three.

Factor in the Ravens’ league-worst pass defense (2,528 yards & 18 touchdowns) and the Bengals’ 227 points allowed, good for sixth-worst, and you’ve got the makings of another wild game that could push the total to eighty points or more.

So why am I going low with an O/U 50.5 when this game, to borrow a phrase good ol’ Jim Ross, is sure to be a slobberknocker?

It’s a short week for two teams who’ve already had a good look at one another. Taking an alternate O/U at -150 gives the SGP some wiggle room.

And for what it’s worth, the third-most frequently occurring total since the start of the 2019 NFL season has been exactly 51 points, while 36.3% of all NFL games over that time have gone over 50.5.

Bengals vs Ravens Same-Game Parlay Pick #2 & #3: Anytime Touchdowns for Derrick Henry & Ja’Marr Chase

It feels contrary to pick Anytime Touchdowns from two players on opposing teams, but its a no-brainer when those two players are the league’s rushing and receiving touchdown leaders.

Lamar Jackson may be the face of the Ravens offense, evident in how he’s the current favorite to win the NFL MVP award, but Derrick Henry arguably does the heavy-lifting.

Henry leads the league in rushing attempts, Y/G, and, most importantly, touchdowns. He’s also notched two receiving TDs, totaling 13 in just 9 games. There’s a reason he’s getting -303 to score Thursday night.

Of my two picks, Chase should be the one to give you pause, but again: this will be a high-scoring game, and Chase knows how to find the end zone.

As a receiver, Chase won’t provide the same scoring versatility as Henry; i.e. he won’t touch the ball nearly as often. However, his rate of return is still phenomenal, scoring seven times in nine games. Chase is also second in receiving yards, second in receiving 1st downs, and third in receptions, despite sitting just seventh in targets.

On top of it all, 5 of his 36 career TDs have come against Baltimore, the most he’s recorded against any one team (6, if you count the playoffs). Yes, frequently playing a division rival is like putting your thumb on the statistical scale, but that’s six TDs in eight games against a team whose defense is traditionally exceptional. This year, that isn’t the case for the Ravens, meaning a Chase touchdown is all but inevitable.

Bengals vs Ravens Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: Joe Burrow 300+ Passing Yards

This is where the SGP gets spicy. This Joe Burrow over in the Bengals vs Ravens player props is the only plus-money leg, but one that has a great chance of hitting.

Burrow’s broken 300 yards in 20 of 61 career NFL games, but has done so only twice this season. However, one of those games came just a month ago against the Ravens, when Burrow nearly put up 392 yards and 5 TDs.

In nine career games against Baltimore, Burrow has surpassed 300+ yards just three times, this year and twice during the 2021 season, when Burrow threw for 416 and 525 yards.

But what do the 2021 Baltimore Ravens have in common with this year’s team? They also owned the worst pass defense in the league.

It stands to reason that if the Ravens secondary is struggling, Joe Burrow will expose it. And if Burrow scowls as hard as he did last week, there’s a good chance he’ll hang five TDs on them, too.

I’m not going to lie, I felt really good about last week’s Vikings vs Rams SGP right after kickoff. Texans vs Jets Same-Game Parlay Pick #1: Houston Texans Moneyline

The lines for Texas vs Jets have moved since the opening NFL Week 8 odds came out and I’m here to jump all over it.

Tonight’s moneyline odds now favor the Jets, following the news that Stefon Diggs will be lost for the season with a torn ACL. The odds shifting from the Texans to the Jets is completely reasonable, given that C.J. Stroud’s two biggest receiving options, Diggs and Nico Collins, are both out.

But that isn’t to say Stroud can’t make things happen with the likes of Joe Mixon, Tank Dell, and Dalton Schultz. And why couldn’t he? As Sascha Paruk laid out in his Texans vs Jets predictions, the Jets’ defense is deceptively subpar, ranking 20th in Defensive DVOA and 25th in takeaways.

I suppose you could give the Jets credit for ranking 12th in scoring and third in passing yards allowed, but those numbers feel awfully skewed when you realize they’re largely built from:

• facing the Titans’ league-worst pass offense,
• facing the Patriots’ second-worst offense twice,
• September’s “weather” game against the Broncos when neither team could move the ball,
• losing by two (nearly three) touchdowns to a 49ers team that didn’t rely on passing to win.

But the main reason to back the Texans on Thursday night is their defense. Ranked second in D-DVOA, second in Run-Block Win Rate, third in yards/play, and fourth in Pass Rush Win Rate, Demeco Ryans’ next-gen “Bulls on Parade” will terrorize Aaron Rodgers all night. No amount of cayenne pepper and water will make Rodgers feel better afterwards.

Texans vs Jets Same-Game Parlay Pick #2: Joe Mixon Anytime Touchdown

Again, I may be looking for holes to poke in their defense, but this stat is a significant one: the Jets are currently tied for fourth-worst in Rushing TDs Allowed. In 2024, they’ve given up 10 TDs on the ground; across eight games, that’s an average of 1.25 Rush TD/G.

Recently, that average has only worsened: in their past three games, the Jets have given up six rushing touchdowns, three from the hapless Patriots.

Knowing all that, who would you lean on to reach the end zone against the Jets? Why not the guy who’s averaging more than a TD per game? In case the header above wasn’t evidence enough, That would be Joe Mixon.

Despite missing three games with an ankle injury, Mixon’s put up six TDs (five rushing, one receiving) in five games. He’s also averaging 20.4 Rush A/G, outpacing league-leader Derrick Henry, so you know Mixon will have opportunities to score.

Though the Jets’ RZ% is currently 57.7%, roughly the league median, all ten of the rushing TDs they’ve given up have come from inside the red zone, with only one longer than ten yards.

This is all just a long-winded way of saying that you can bank on Mixon hitting the end zone against the Jets.

Texans vs Jets Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: Tank Dell Over 4.5 Receptions

With Diggs and Collins both on the sidelines, who will be the “next man up” in the Texans’ receiving corps? I believe it’ll be Tank Dell and not just because he’s the new WR1 by default.

Dell was on the cusp of stardom in his rookie season, putting up seven TDs, 70.9 Y/G, and 4.7 Rec/G last year before fracturing his fibula. Those numbers have clearly gone down in 2024 with Diggs now on the roster, but Dell has been finding opportunities again since Collins went down.

Yes, he was blanked in Week 7 against the Packers, but Stroud only throwing for 86 yards earmarks this game as more an exception than a rule.

Ignoring that anomaly against Green Bay, Dell has recorded 15 receptions from 17 targets since Collins’ injury, all while Diggs was still on the field. If Dell was averaging 5.0 receptions as the Texans’ WR2, it stands to reason that number will goo up as a primary target.

Vikings vs Rams Same-Game Parlay Pick #1: First-Half Total Over 23.5 Points

My rationale for the first-half total going over 23.5 points is fairly straightforward: lately, both teams keep putting up lots of points in the first half.

Over the past three games, the Vikings and Rams are averaging a combined 29.3 first half points, compared to a full season average of 23.7.

Admittedly, Minnesota owns the bulk of that three-game total, compiling an average of 18.3 against the likes of Detroit, the NY Jets, and Green Bay. In contrast, LA is contributing just 11.0, achieved against Las Vegas, Green Bay and Chicago. In other words, the Rams will need to put up points to get the leg to 24.

But how? In 2024, the Rams have scored more touchdowns on the ground (8) than in the air (3). That bodes well until you realize the Vikings boast one of the best rushing defenses in the league, conceding only 480 yards and 3 touchdowns in six games this season.

However, a career’s worth of evidence suggests Matthew Stafford is not afraid to throw the ball, and this Thursday will mark the return of one of his favorite targets, Cooper Kupp.

Not only has Kupp recorded 29 TDs and nearly 3,600 yards when playing with Stafford, but in those 38 games Stafford has thrown for a total of over 10,000 yards and 71 TDs. That’s not just a lot of balls thrown to Kupp; that’s a lot of balls thrown to everybody.

Stands to reason that Stafford and the Rams will keep up with Minnesota and put somebody in the end zone in the first half.

Vikings vs Rams Same-Game Parlay Pick #2 & #3: Justin Jefferson 70+ Alt Receiving Yards & Anytime TD

This leg of the parlay turned into a nice little “two-fer” because of how electric Justin Jefferson has been. It’s hard to argue against him when he’s put up 88.5 Receiving YPG and five touchdowns in just six games.

At the moment, Jefferson’s Rec Yards O/U for tonight is 84.5 and, if I’m being honest, I feel like there’s better value in giving myself a little yardage leeway. In three of five games this season where Jefferson has gone over 80 yards, he’s only barely done so.

I’m not saying Jefferson won’t hit 80 yards on TNF. Heck, it wouldn’t surprise me if he broke 110. But that 84.5 O/U looks far too tight compared to the numbers he’s put up this year. That’s why I’m giving myself some wiggle room on this leg of the SGP.

As for the “Jefferson Anytime TD” leg, he already has five TDs, has 28 more targets than any other Viking and 13 more receptions. Sam Darnold will be putting the ball in his hands all night; you could argue he’s more likely to not score tonight.

Vikings vs Rams Same-Game Parlay Pick #4: Kyren Williams Under 73.5 Rushing Yards

I won’t deny that Kyren Williams is having a fantastic season so far, particularly after averaging 90.25 rushing yards and six TDs in his last four games.

He’s been clutch since Kupp went down in Week 2, but will things change when they’re both on the field Thursday night? I believe so.

In 2023, Williams averaged 112.38 rushing YPG when he and Kupp were playing. Having both players available will allow the Rams’ offense to toy with opposing defenses more than they have this season.

However, that average was compiled entirely against bad rushing defenses! Not once did Williams face an elite rushing defense in 2023 when Kupp was also available; his best was the 88 yards he put up against Cleveland’s 11th-ranked rush defense.

Instead, Williams will be facing the Vikings’ aforementioned second-best rush defense, one that will be very angry after giving up 144 yards to Detroit last week.

If the Rams end up playing catch-up on the scoreboard, they’ll take to the air early to keep the clock from running down. That means less handoffs for Williams. It tracks that his rushing yard total will suffer for it.

I bounced back in last week’s 49ers vs Seahawks SGP, when all three of our legs hit. Broncos vs Saints Same-Game Parlay Pick #1: Alt Total Points: Under 39.5

I won’t deny that this one feels a little odd, especially how the Saints have been a part of four games this season where the total hit 50 or more. That’s two-thirds of the games they’ve played so far, but I wouldn’t be making this move if there wasn’t a caveat.

Those four games featured some of the worst defenses in the league: the Panthers (29th), Cowboys (25th), Falcons (19th), and the Saints themselves (32nd) in last week’s 51-27 loss to Tampa Bay. And for what it’s worth, the Saints rank fourth in scoring, but 14th in total offense. Seems to me that’s a discrepancy worth scrutiny.

In New Orleans’ games against quality defenses, namely Philadelphia (10th) and Kansas City (4th), the totals ended on 27 and 39, respectively.

Comparatively, the Broncos’ ninth-overall defense has allowed passing and rushing totals similar to the Eagles. These comparisons are never apples to apples, but this one is pretty close.

So if the Saints defense is so bad, why am I still taking the under? Because the Broncos’ offense isn’t much better, rating 26th in passing and 18th in rushing. It’s the Saints’ pass defense (30th) that’s particularly vulnerable, but facing a less-than-effective passing offense should slow down the scoring quite a lot.

Broncos vs Saints Same-Game Parlay Pick #2: Bo Nix 200+ Passing Yards

I know, I just called the Broncos’ passing game “less-than-effective,” but that doesn’t mean Nix cannot hit 200+ yards, either.

Denver’s rookie QB has stayed under 200 yards in only two games this year: his first-ever NFL game in the first week of the season at Seattle (138 yards) and a sloppy, 10-9 “weather” game against the Jets (60 yards). Otherwise, he’s gone over 200 with yards to spare in his four other games.

Bo Nix is not a guy you give up on 6 games into his career.

He’s got the tools. Just has to be more consistent with them.

Most notable of those performances is Nix’s most recent, the 216 yards he put up last week against the Chargers fourth-ranked pass defense. It’s a low total for a young QB against a quality pass defense, but he still broke 200 yards.

If we take general probability into consideration, NFL quarterbacks who have thrown 20 pass attempts or more in a game this season have also thrown for 200+ yards on 106 occasions, compared to the 65 QBs who stayed under 200. And of those 65 QBs, only one of them was facing the Saints.

I’m not saying Nix throwing for 200 yards is a given, but the likelihood that he does so is better than what sportsbooks are suggesting.

Broncos vs Saints Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: Javonte Williams Anytime TD Scorer

I’m leaning towards Javonte Williams for an anytime TD, mostly as a litmus test to see if the Saints did their homework after last week’s implosion.

No, Williams doesn’t score a lot; in fact, he alternates seasons between scoring in bunches or not at all. But when Williams scores, he does so in the red zone, as all twelve of his career TDs have come from within 20 yards.

And that’s where things get tricky, because the Saints currently rank third in defensive red zone scoring percentage. At 38.1%, only the Bears (37.5%) and Broncos (33.3%) are better at preventing red zone touchdowns. So is there value in taking Javonte Williams for a TD on Thursday? I believe there is.

That gaudy defensive RZ% covers their whole season, but when only looking at the last four games, the Saints’ percentage drops to 43.8%, all losses.

Strangely, that parallels Denver’s improvement in the red zone: their offensive RZ% is 50% for the entire the season, but is a massive 72.7% over their last four games.

New Orleans is getting worse in the red zone, while Denver is getting better. Who does that benefit? A guy who only scores in the red zone. That means Javonte Williams.

It felt like last week’s Buccaneers vs Falcons SGP was destined to hit, based off how Tampa was cruising into halftime. The Bucs were up by 7, Baker Mayfield put up 131 passing yards, and a Chris Godwin touchdown was all but imminent.

That’s why I’m leading off my Week 6 Thursday Night Football SGP with a first-half O/U pick. With two more legs added in, today’s NFL same-game parlay adds up to +850, where a $100 bet would net a profit of $850, but only if all three legs hit. The 49ers vs Seahawks odds list the Niners are 3.5-point road favorites.

49ers vs Seahawks Same-Game Parlay Pick #1: First Half Under 24.5 Points

My gut feeling for this leg initially had me leaning towards the over, but the more I researched the the Niners & Seahawks’ respective 2024 seasons, the quicker I started going in the other direction.

Yes, San Francisco and Seattle are averaging a combined 28.0 first half points points so far in 2024, which admittedly bodes well for the over.

That’s particularly true when the the 49ers’ share of that average has gone up to 16.0, thanks in part to two strong first half performances at home (20 pts vs New England & 23 pts vs Arizona).

However, the key here is “at home.” When they’re on the road, the 49ers’ 1H P/G in 2024 drops to 10.5. When combined with Seattle’s 1H P/G of 12.0, you’ll start to see why we’re favoring the first half under for Thursday night.

Ultimately, games involving San Francisco in 2024 have seen their first half point totals go over 24.5 just once in five games. Though the Seahawks have already gone over that total twice this year, it’s never happened at home. That’s why I’m taking the under in the first half.

49ers vs Seahawks Same-Game Parlay Pick #2: Brock Purdy Passing Yards Over 252.5

On our second leg this week, I’m looking for Brock Purdy to exploit a passing defense that’s dipped over the past two weeks.

Putting up the eighth-best pass defense in the league after five games is not something to ignore, but some context may explain why the Seahawks’ numbers are a little too gaudy for their own good.

In their first three games, they held opposing quarterbacks to 132, 125, and 140 passing yards. Those are some high-quality numbers, right? I’d agree if they weren’t achieved against a rookie QB in his first ever start (Denver), the third-worst passing offense in the league (New England), and a team with their franchise QB on the IR (Miami).

All things considered, Purdy has not looked his best in recent weeks. Watching him throw three interceptions in the two weeks while his completion percentage dips below league average has been disappointing to say the least.

However, the 49ers are still the fourth-best passing team in the league, with Purdy surpassing 253 yards in three games already this season, while coming up just short in another. While Eric Rosales has the over on Jordan Mason’s rushing yards in his 49ers vs Seahawks player props, I’m counting on Purdy to at least hit 250 again Thursday night.

49ers vs Seahawks Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: George Kittle Anytime Touchdown Scorer

Originally, I was going to lean towards Kenneth Walker III for this week’s Anytime Touchdown pick. However, not only did the odds feel too safe (-125) against a team with the 11th-best rushing defense, but the George Kittle Anytime TD odds looked just a little too good to pass up.

There’s a reason for it, naturally, with Kittle is not yet over his rib injury. However, his full practice participation on Wednesday has me wanting to jump on those longer odds while I still can.

So far this season, Kittle leads the 49ers in receptions despite sitting third in targets, while also leading in touchdowns and red zone targets. He’s also scored five touchdowns in his last four games against Seattle, including a pair of two-touchdown games at Seattle in 2021 and 2022.

I may regret not opting for Walker III for this week’s SGP (or even adding him to juice a 4-legged SGP for +1600), but for the value I’m getting, Kittle is a solid option.
