  • Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz clash in a blockbuster Olympic gold medal match
  • Alcaraz is a -225 favorite to win his third major title of 2024
  • Read on for our Djokovic vs Alcaraz betting preview, including odds, predictions and best bets

  • The 2024 Paris Olympics men’s tennis tournament has delivered the dream final, as all-time great Novak Djokovic takes on young phenom Carlos Alcaraz for the gold medal on Sunday. It’s a rematch of their epic Wimbledon final from just a few weeks ago, which Alcaraz won in dominant fashion.

For Djokovic, this is likely his last chance to capture the only major prize missing from his illustrious trophy case. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Alcaraz is looking to complete a historic triple by adding Olympic gold to his French Open and Wimbledon titles this summer.

So who will be standing atop the podium when the dust settles on Court Philippe-Chatrier? Let’s break it down in our betting preview.

    Djokovic vs Alcaraz Odds

    Player Spread Moneyline Total Games
    Novak Djokovic +3.5 (-118) +190 O 22.5 (-106)
    Carlos Alcaraz -3.5 (-112) -235 U 22.5 (-128)

Alcaraz is a substantial -235 favorite to win gold, which implies a 69.23% probability. Djokovic is a +190 underdog, or a 33.3% chance to pull the upset. The game spread favors Alcaraz by 3.5 games, highlighting oddsmakers’ belief that he will win comfortably.

The total of 22.5 games is on the lower side for a best-of-three match, another indication that a convincing Alcaraz victory is expected. The over on 22.5 games is priced at -106, while the under is at -128. For the over to hit, the match would need to be reasonably competitive – something like a 7-6, 6-4 Alcaraz win.

The gold medal match will take place on Sunday, August 4th, on Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros Stadium in Paris. The exact start time is to be determined, but it will be broadcast live on NBC/Peacock in the USA.

    Djokovic vs Alcaraz Head-to-Head

Djokovic and Alcaraz have split their six previous meetings, but it’s Alcaraz who has won two of their three major finals. Most recently, the Spaniard routed Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4) to defend his Wimbledon crown.

    Djokovic vs Alcaraz H2H Results

Year Tournament Surface Round Winner Score
    2022 Madrid Clay SF Alcaraz 6-7(5), 7-5, 7-6(5)
    2023 French Open Clay SF Djokovic 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1
    2023 Wimbledon Grass F Alcaraz 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4
    2023 Cincinnati Hard F Djokovic 7-5, 7-6(7), 7-6(4)
    2024 Monte Carlo Clay F Alcaraz 6-4, 6-2
    2024 Wimbledon Grass F Alcaraz 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4)

Their head-to-head record shows Alcaraz has had the edge in their most important matches. He’s won both of their Roland Garros meetings in straight sets, suggesting his game matches up well with Djokovic’s on clay.

Djokovic did beat Alcaraz on a hard court in Cincinnati last year, indicating he can still get the better of the young Spaniard in faster conditions. But Alcaraz was just coming off his first Wimbledon title then and may have been emotionally drained.

Since that loss, Alcaraz has reeled off four consecutive wins over the Serbian legend.

    Alcaraz’s Dominance on Display

There’s no doubt Alcaraz has been the sport’s most dominant player in recent months. He’s won the last two majors, the French Open and Wimbledon, without dropping a set. His explosive game, built around a huge forehand and incredible court coverage, has simply been too much for the rest of the tour to handle.

In Paris, Alcaraz has continued his stellar play, not losing a set en route to the final.

    Alcaraz 2024 Paris Olympics Results

    Round Opponent Score
    1R Hady Habib 6-3, 6-1
    2R Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 6-2
    3R Roman Safiullin 7-6(3), 6-1
    QF Tommy Paul 6-3, 7-6(7)
    SF Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 6-1

Alcaraz has been utterly ruthless, dropping just one set (in a tiebreak) through five matches. He demolished 8th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semis, conceding a mere two games in a 6-1, 6-1 masterclass.

A look at Alcaraz’s tournament stats shows just how dominant he’s been:

    • 90% first serve points won
    • 82% service games won
    • 54% return games won
    • 62% break points converted

Those are off-the-charts numbers indicative of a player at the absolute peak of his powers. Alcaraz’s return game, in particular, has been a huge weapon – he leads the tour in return games and break points won in 2024.

If Alcaraz can maintain this level of play, it’s hard to see how even a player of Djokovic’s caliber can withstand the onslaught. The Spaniard’s ability to take the ball early, change direction, and finish points with his forehand is unmatched when he’s at his best.

    Djokovic Competing for Legacy

An Olympic singles gold is the only major achievement missing from Djokovic’s exceptional career. Despite reaching the semifinals in 2008 and 2012, and the bronze medal match in 2016, he has yet to claim the top spot. At 37, Djokovic recognizes this may be his last opportunity to fill this gap in his resume.

There’s no questioning Djokovic’s determination, but there are some doubts about his form and fitness. He underwent knee surgery after withdrawing from the French Open, and has struggled at times with the injury during this event.

    Djokovic 2024 Paris Olympics Results

    Round Opponent Score
    1R Matthew Ebden 6-0, 6-1
    2R Rafael Nadal 6-1, 6-4
    3R Dominik Koepfer 7-5, 6-3
    QF Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6(3)
    SF Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-2

Djokovic hasn’t been as dominant as Alcaraz, but he’s still found a way to battle through some tough matches and reach the final without dropping a set. His mental toughness was on full display in his quarterfinal against Stefanos Tsitsipas, where he overcame a 0-4 second set deficit and a medical timeout for his knee to prevail in a tiebreak.

And while the stats from his semifinal win over Lorenzo Musetti weren’t pretty – he hit just 12 winners against 23 unforced errors – Djokovic’s ability to raise his level on the biggest points was evident. He saved all seven break points he faced, including three when serving for the first set, and was clinical in the key moments.

    Djokovic vs Alcaraz Prediction

As much as Djokovic craves this gold medal, and as great a champion as he is, it’s extremely hard to bet against Alcaraz right now. The 21-year-old has taken his game to new heights in 2024 and will be supremely motivated to make history with a calendar Golden Slam in singles.

I expect Djokovic’s pride and competitive fire will help him avoid another shellacking like the one he suffered at Wimbledon. He’s too good a player to let that happen again. But over a best-of-three set format on clay, Alcaraz’s youth, speed, power and consistency should ultimately prove too much.

Look for Alcaraz to start fast, Djokovic to fight back in the second set, but the young Spaniard to rise to the occasion in the decider. A tight three-set victory would solidify Alcaraz’s status as the new king of tennis and mark a symbolic passing of the torch from one all-time great to the next.

    Olympic Tennis Final Picks:

    • Carlos Alcaraz def. Novak Djokovic 6-4, 4-6, 6-3
    • Djokovic +3.5 games (-118)
    • Over 22.5 (-106)

  • The 2024 Paris Olympics women’s singles final features China’s Qinwen Zheng and Croatia’s Donna Vekic, both first-time finalists. It’s a matchup filled with intrigue, historical significance, and plenty of betting value.

Zheng, the 21-year-old sixth seed, pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament by defeating world No. 1 and heavy favorite Iga Swiatek in straight sets. Vekic, seeded 13th, won the battle of the giant-killers by toppling 2nd-seeded Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals.

So who will be standing atop the podium when the clay dust settles? We’ve got you covered with our betting preview, including the latest odds, matchup analysis, and predictions. Let’s dive in.

    Zheng vs Vekic Odds

    Player Spread Moneyline Total
    Qinwen Zheng -3.5 (-120) -225 O 21.5 (-140)
    Donna Vekic +3.5 (-120) +175 U 21.5 (-110)

The oddsmakers have installed Zheng as a solid -225 favorite on the moneyline, which implies a 71.4% win probability. Vekic is priced at +175 (33.3% implied probability) as the underdog. The spread is set at Zheng -3.5, while the total is posted at 21.5 games.

The Women’s Singles Final takes place on Saturday at Court Philippe-Chatrier, Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France. The match will be broadcast on USA Network, beginning at 10:00 a.m ET.

    Zheng vs Vekic Head-to-Head

Zheng and Vekic have only squared off twice before, and it’s all square at 1-1.

    Year Tournament Result
    2021 Courmayeur Vekic def. Zheng 7-6(1), 6-2
    2023 Zhuhai Zheng def. Vekic 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4

Their first tango was way back in 2021 at the Courmayeur Ladies Open on the indoor hard courts. Vekic, then ranked No. 97, squeaked out a tight first set tiebreak 7-6(1) against the teenage Zheng before cruising 6-2 in the second.

Fast forward to 2023, and the script flipped at the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai. Zheng, now a top-tier seed, took the first set 6-4. Vekic clawed back, saving match points to steal the second set tiebreak 8-6. But Zheng steadied the ship, breaking late in the decider to prevail 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4.

So, what can we take away from these clashes? Not a whole lot, really. Both matches were close, but they happened in vastly different circumstances. Zheng’s clearly a different beast now than she was in that 2021 loss, while Vekic will take heart from her 2021 win and pushing Zheng to the brink in Zhuhai.

    Zheng’s Road to Gold

The rising star from China has been on a tear this summer. She’s riding a 10-match winning streak, punctuated by a title in Palermo just before the Olympics. But her masterpiece came in the semifinals, where she dismantled Swiatek 6-2, 7-5.

Here’s a look at her path to the final:

    Zheng 2024 Paris Olympics Results

    Round Opponent Score
    1R Sara Errani 6-0, 6-0
    2R Arantxa Rus 6-2, 6-4
    3R Emma Navarro 6-7(7), 7-6(4), 6-1
    QF Angelique Kerber 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(6)
    SF Iga Swiatek 6-2, 7-5

Zheng showed tremendous resilience in back-to-back three-hour matches against Navarro and Kerber. Then she went and snapped Swiatek’s 25-match Roland Garros winning streak in impressive fashion, showcasing major coolness under pressure.

What’s been most impressive about Zheng’s run is her ability to raise her level when it matters most. Against Swiatek, she came back from 0-4 down in the second set, reeling off seven of the last eight games to secure the win.

The mental toughness Zheng has already displayed will serve her well in the gold medal match. If she can maintain the aggressive, powerful tennis she’s displayed thus far, she’ll be tough to beat.

    Vekic’s Road to Gold

Croatia’s top player is enjoying a career-best season in 2024. She made an impressive run to the Wimbledon semifinals and has carried that form into Paris. Vekic has already secured Croatia’s first-ever Olympic women’s singles medal and is now guaranteed at least silver.

    Her route to the final:

    Vekic 2024 Paris Olympics Results

    Round Opponent Score
    1R Lucia Bronzetti 6-2, 7-5
    2R Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 6-4
    3R Coco Gauff 7-6(7), 6-2
    QF Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(8)
    SF Anna K. Schmiedlova 6-4, 6-0

Vekic’s victory over 2nd seed Gauff was a major statement. She then outlasted Kostyuk in an epic quarterfinal before dominating surprise semifinalist Schmiedlova. The 28-year-old is in uncharted territory but has looked at home on the big stage.

Vekic’s experience has shone through in her maiden Olympic run. She’s won the big points in tense moments, as evidenced by her first-set tiebreak win over Gauff and her thrilling quarterfinal triumph over Kostyuk.

Her semifinal rout of Schmiedlova was a masterclass in controlling the match from start to finish. If Vekic can bring that same level of poise and precision into the final, she has a real shot at pulling off the upset and making Croatian tennis history.

    Zheng vs Vekic Prediction

Tennis fans couldn’t have asked for a better gold medal matchup. It’s a contrast of styles – Zheng’s explosive power against Vekic’s precision and poise. The Chinese youngster has looked unstoppable, while the Croatian veteran appears to be peaking at the perfect time.

However, when you examine the stats and trends, Zheng has the advantage. Clay is clearly her best surface (68% win rate), while it’s actually Vekic’s weakest (46%). Zheng has also demonstrated she can go the distance, surviving two grueling three-setters. Her confidence is sky-high after defeating Swiatek.

Vekic may be the fresher player, but Zheng’s current form is simply too strong to ignore. I’m backing the 21-year-old to ride her momentum to a historic gold medal for China. Don’t be surprised if she achieves it in straight sets, too.

    The Picks:

    • Qinwen Zheng -3.5 games (-120)
    • Zheng to Win Every Set 6-3 or 6-4 (+650 sprinkle bet)

  • The 2024 men’s singles final at SW19 will be a repeat of last year as Novak Djokovic faces Carlos Alcaraz in the title match on Centre Court on Sunday, July 14.

Alcaraz won a thrilling five-set match last year to win his first Wimbledon title. With Djokovic coming off knee surgery just five weeks ago, Alcaraz is slightly favored to make it two in a row at the All England Club.

The game spread and over/under are still TBD. The set total is priced at +200 for another five-set affair.

    2023 French Open Clay Djokovic (6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1)
    2022 Madrid Masters Clay Alcaraz (6-7, 7-5, 7-6)

Though Alcaraz won the final at Wimbledon last year, Djokovic is 3-2 all-time against the young Spaniard, including winning each of the last two meetings. Both of those were on hard court, though. Alcaraz is 1-0 against Djokovic on grass, 1-1 on clay, and 0-2 on hard court.

Djokovic Cruises to Wimbledon Final Despite Knee Surgery

Just over a month ago, Djokovic was forced to withdraw from the French Open ahead of his quarterfinal clash with Casper Ruud. He underwent surgery on his meniscus yet has looked no worse for wear throughout Wimbledon. Djokovic has won nine straight sets against Lorenzo Musetti, Holger Rune, and Alexei Popyrin en route to the finals, and also benefited from a withdrawal by Alex de Minaur in the quarters, meaning his rehabbing knee was saved a little court time.

Prior to his loss to Alcaraz in the 2023 final, Djokovic had won 34 straight matches at SW19, including the 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 crowns. (The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID.)

Alcaraz Pushed in Wimbledon Title Defense

The reigning-champion’s route back to the finals has been considerably tougher than Novak’s. After winning his first two matches in straight sets, Alcaraz has needed at least four sets in his last four, losing the first set in three of those matches. Alcaraz was taken to a fifth set by Francis Tiafoe in the third round, needing to win a fourth-set tiebreak just to stay in the match.

For the second straight year, he got the better of former world #1 Daniil Medvedev in the semis (6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4).

Alcaraz and Djokovic are scheduled to start their 2024 Wimbledon final at 9:00 am ET on Sunday.

  • Tennis fans were certainly expecting at least one Italian to be in the semifinals of Wimbledon, but as the draw panned out, that Italian wasn’t world #1 and pre-tournament favorite Jannick Sinner, but his compatriot Lorenzo Musetti. After a come-from-behind five-set victory over heavily-favored Taylor Fritz in the quarters, the 22-year-old Italian is through to the semifinals at 2024 Wimbledon, which is already his best result at a grand slam.

Unfortunately for the 6’5 Californian, waiting in the semis is Novak Djokovic, winner of a record 24 majors. Though Djokovic has been battling injuries this season, he still enters the semis as a heavy favorite to end Fritz’s run.

Djokovic is the current second-favorite to win the tournament in the 2024 Wimbledon odds at +125, just behind Carlos Alcaraz (+110), who meets Daniil Medvedev in the first semifinal on Friday.

Djokovic Returns from Knee Injury with No Signs of Rust

Just five weeks ago, Djokovic was forced to pull out of the French Open ahead of his quarterfinal matchup with Casper Ruud due to a knee injury. He underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus shortly thereafter, yet the 37-year-old has breezed to the semis at SW19. He dropped just two sets in his first four matches (winning 85 games, including tiebreakers, while losing just 54). His 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 obliteration of Holger Rune in the round of 16 appeared to be a warning shot over the bow of everyone else left in the tournament, though the Serbia downplayed its significance afterwards, stating his knee was still a big concern.

Djokovic got a huge break in the quarters when Australian Alex de Minaur was forced to withdraw ahead of the match with a hip injury.

Musetti Ends Fritz’s Grass-Court Win Streak

Coming off a title on the grass at Eastbourne, Taylor Fritz had picked up right where he left off at the All England Club. He dropped just one set in his first three matches against Christopher O’Connell, Arthur Rinderknech, and Alejandro Tabilo before coming back from two sets down to oust #4 Alexander Zverev (4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3) in the round of 16. His win streak on grass stood at eight as he matched up with Musetti as a heavy favorite in Wednesday’s quarterfinal.

Fritz appeared to be in full control after going up a set and a break, but the Italian broke back immediately en route to a 7-6 second-set win that propelled him to a five-set victory over an ailing Fritz, whose shoulder was clearly bothering him in a lopsided final set (3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1).

Musetti’s career record against Djokovic is a concerning 1-5 overall, 1-3 on clay and 0-2 on hard court; they have never met on grass. Musetti will take some positives out of their last meeting at the 2024 French Open, a five-set thriller that lasted into the wee hours of the morning but ultimately witnessed the Italian run out of gas (7-5, 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0).

Djokovic vs Musetti Picks & Predictions

Djokovic has looked surprisingly spry and rejuvenated roughly a month after knee surgery but if you watched him against Francisco Cerundolo at the French Open, you’ll be wary of taking too strong a position on the legendary Serbian, who’s been putting his body through the ringer for over 20 years.

I wouldn’t take anything Djokovic, the ultimate gamesman, says at face value. So when he claims that his knee remains a concern, I don’t necessarily buy it. But Musetti has made great strides in his career over the last two months, and he nearly beat Djokovic the last time they met.  Musetti reached the final on the grass at the Queen’s Club just before Wimbledon, beating Alex de Minaur (1-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the process before losing to Tommy Paul in the final (6-1, 7-6).

He still struggles to find consistency and maintain his best over the course of a five-set match, but his best is on par with anyone these days, and I trust he’ll find it at some point in the semifinals against a less-than-full-speed Djokovic.

    • Musetti +2.5 sets (-140)
    • Musetts +2.5 games in 1st set (-165)

Sascha Paruk’s 2024 Wimbledon picks: 2-1 (+0.76 units). All wagers one unit unless expressly stated otherwise.

  • Third-seed Carlos Alcaraz’s quest for a second straight Wimbledon title is alive and well as the 21-year-old Spaniard heads into a semifinal matchup with fifth-seed Daniil Medvedev. Alcaraz swept aside the Russian in three sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-3) in this exact spot in the bracket last year en route to his first Wimbledon crown.

Alcaraz and Medvedev are scheduled to meet on Centre Court at 6:00 am ET on Friday, July 12, and the Medvedev vs Alcaraz odds heavily favor the Spaniard to advance again.

Alcaraz heads into the semifinals as the +110 favorite to win the tournament in the updated Wimbledon odds. Novak Djokovic is a close second-favorite at +125. Medvedev is a +750 longshot, but that still sits well ahead of Lorenzo Musetti (+2000) who will meet Djokovic later on Friday in the other semifinal.

    Medvedev vs Alcaraz H2H History

    Year Tournament Surface Winner/Score
    2024 Indian Wells Hard Alcaraz (7-6, 6-1)
    2023 ATP Finals Hard Alcaraz (6-4, 6-4)
    2023 US Open Hard Medvedev (7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3)
    2023 Wimbledon Grass Alcaraz (6-3, 6-3, 6-3)
    2023 Indian Wells Hard Alcaraz (6-3, 6-2)
    2021 Wimbledon Grass Medvedev (6-4, 6-1. 6-2)

Medvedev and Alcaraz have become all too familiar with each other over the last year-plus. Friday’s match will be their fifth since March 2023, and only once in that span has Medvedev come out on top (a four-setter at the 2023 US Open). Indeed, in the other four matchups (three on hard courts, one on grass) Alcaraz has won all nine sets, and the Russian has only forced one tiebreak.

    Paths to the Semifinals

    Medvedev
    VS
    Alcaraz
    Aleksandar Kovacevic (6-3, 6-4, 6-2) Round 1 Mark Lajal (7-6, 7-5, 6-2)
    Alexandre Muller (6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 7-5) Round 2 Aleksandar Vukic (7-6, 6-2, 6-2)
    Jan-Lennard Struff (6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6) Round 3 Francis Tiafoe (5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2)
    Grigor Dimitrov (5-3, walkover) Round 4 Ugo Humbert (6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5)
    Jannick Sinner (6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3) Round 5 Tommy Paul (5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2)

Medvedev has undoubtedly had the tougher path to the semis but caught some breaks along the way. After falling down an early break to Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16, Medvedev advanced without breaking a sweat when Bulgarian was forced to retire with a knee injury later in the first set.

In his quarterfinal crucible with world #1 Jannick Sinner, Medvedev again saw his opponent languishing on court. Sinner was stricken with some unnamed illness that saw him take a 10-minute medical timeout midway through the match, and Medvedev was eventually able to come through a four-four, five-set marathon.

Alcaraz was only seriously pushed once this tournament, falling down two sets to one to Francis Tiafoe before dominating a fourth-set tiebreaker (7-2) and then running away with the fifth set (6-2).

Medvedev vs Alcaraz Predictions & Picks

This is the last opponent Medvedev wanted to see in his side of the bracket. No opponent is better suited to frustrate the temperamental Russian. Alcaraz’s court coverage is unparalleled on tour these days and, unlike most other fleet-footed ATPers, he pairs his speed with a dominant serve and massive ground strokes.

I firmly believe Alcaraz will get back to world #1 in the not-too-distant future and, barring injuries, stay there for a long while. I also expect him to make relatively quick work of the big Russian on Friday.

    • Alcaraz -1.5 sets (-160)
    • Under 39.5 games (-120)

Sascha Paruk’s 2024 Wimbledon picks: 2-1 (+0.76 units). All wagers one unit unless expressly stated otherwise.

  • A rain-delayed first two days at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, has already produced one major upset with +1500 underdog Francisco Comesana beating #6 seed Andrey Rublev (6-4, 5-7, 4-1) in the former’s second-ever match on grass.

With several of Tuesday’s matches being pushed back to Wednesday, here are my Wimbledon best bets for July 3.

Wimbledon Picks for Wednesday, July 3

    Halys vs Eubanks Prediction

Due to rain delays, it’s not clear yet if Quentin Halys vs Christopher Eubanks is going to take place late on Tuesday night or early on Wednesday morning, so if you want to wager on it, do so sooner rather than later.

Eubanks and Halys finished the 2023 season fifth and sixth, respectively, in ATP’s “Serve Effectiveness”. Halys only had a 59.2 first-serve percentage, but no player won more first-serve points than the lanky Frenchman (79.9%).

Halys has had a pretty miserable 2024, dropping from 100th in the world to 220th, but he started his grass-court campaign brightly with a trio of wins in Wimbledon qualifying, surrendering just six break-point chances and one break of serve over eight sets.

Eubanks is just 2-3 on grass so far this season, including back-to-back losses to Zhizhen Zhang (6-4, 4-6, 7-5) and 18-year-old Jakub Mensik (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) and as you can see only one of his past six sets went over 10.5 games. But this match was taylor-made for multiple tiebreaks, and DraftKings has over 10.5 priced at -105. (The over is closer to -130 at most other sportsbooks).

    Andreescu vs Noskova Prediction

Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu has made a brilliant start to her comeback. In her first tournament since August 2023, Andreescu won two matches on clay (her worst surface) at the French Open before bowing out to eventual finalist Jasmine Paolini in three sets. Next time out at the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, she won her first four matches over Eva Vedder (world #347), Yue Yuan (#39), Danila Galfi (#127), and four-time major-champion Naomi Osaka, who is sitting at #113 in the world during her own comeback attempt.

Andreescu eventually fell to Liudmila Samsonova (#15) in the final (6-4, 6-2).

After a strong start to the 2024 season, including a quarterfinal appearance at the Aussie Open, the 19-year-old Noskova has been inconsistent of late. She is just 3-2 on grass over the past two weeks, beating veteran Angelique Kerber (who’s fallen to world #221), Taylor Townsend (#76), and most-recently Sara Errani (#86) in the first round at Wimbledon. But she hasn’t won back-to-back matches since February.

love getting Andreescu at plus-money on this fast surface.

    Sinner vs Berrettini Prediction

The world #1 started his Wimbledon campaign with a four-set win over Yannick Hanfmann (6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3) and now gets a very tough second-round matchup with fellow Italian and grass-court savant Matteo Berrettini.

The former world #6, who nearly dropped out of the top 100 during an injury-plagued 2023, is back with a vengeance. He reached the final in Stuttgart, beating four tough opponents in Roman Safiullin (#44), under-ranked Denis Shapovalov (#121), James Duckworth (#81), and Lorenzo Musetti (#25), before falling to world #28 Jack Draper in three sets.

In 2021 and 2022, Berrettini combined to go 20-1 on grass. He reached the Wimbledon final in 2021 and, after missing the 2022 edition, made it to the fourth round last year during an otherwise pedestrian season for the 6’5 Italian.

No one is denying Sinner should be a heavy favorite; he’s coming off a semi-final appearance here last year and has only lost three matches all season. But Berrettini is extremely difficult to break on grass.

  • It’s the tennis rivalry of the summer — and perhaps a preview of what’s to come for next week’s US Open.

Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz battles 2-seed Novak Djokovic in the final of the Western & Southern Open on Sunday (Aug 20) in Cincinnati at 4:30pm ET. We’re just two tournaments removed from an epic Wimbledon Final, where Alcaraz won his second career major title over the most decorated men’s champ in history.

Speaking of breakthroughs, the women’s semifinal was pandemonium, with the top two seeds bounced, leaving Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova still standing, and one about to add a first Masters 1000-level tourney title to their resume when they take centre court at 1:30pm ET.

Let’s break down championship Sunday in Cincinnati, starting with the the men’s final.

    Alcaraz vs Djokovic Betting Analysis

It’s been a tale of two paths for the men’s top two seeds.

Djokovic needed to put in a little bit of work in the semis, besting Russian Alexander Zverev 7-6 (5), 7-5 to advance to the tourney final as he seeks his third career title in Cincinnati, though he’s yet to drop a set in Cincinnati.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, has been in scramble mode all tournament, going the full three sets in each of his four matches at the Western & Southern Open.

He had to fight off a match point in the semis against Hubert Hurkacz, before closing out strong in a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 win. He’s been on the court for more than 10.5 hours heading into the final. Conversely, Djokovic has been on court for less than five hours.

Alcaraz has won two of the three head-to-heads, but this will be the first matchup on hard courts. Alcaraz won on grass at Wimbledon in a match that went the distance.

Djokovic got the win at Roland Garros this year in four sets, while Alcaraz won in Madrid in a match that went the full three sets, with two tiebreakers.

    Alcaraz vs Djokovic Stats

    Carlos Alcaraz
    VS
    Novak Djokovic
    1 ATP Ranking 2
    12 ATP Titles 94
    53-5 W-L (2023) 36-5
    2-1 Head-to-Head Record 1-2

It’s hard to bet against the Serbian legend, as Djokovic will be making his record 57th Masters-level tournament final, looking to add to his record 38 tourney wins.

But Alcaraz is resilient, and even if he’s not playing his best, seeing this opponent across the net should bring out the best in him, and a match that should go the distance.

    Pick: OVER 22.5 games (-112)

    Gauff vs Muchova Betting Analysis

It was a double-breakout party on the women’s side.

American Gauff played dragon slayer on her side of the bracket, knocking out world no. 1 Iga Swiatek in a three-set marathon, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4.

Meanwhile, Muchova also went three sets to bounce 2-seed Aryna Sabalenka to advance to the tournament final, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2.

Oddsmakers are tagging Gauff as -194 favorite to win her third singles title this season and second in her last three outings.

    Gauff vs Muchova Odds

    Player Moneyline Spread Total
    [7] Coco Gauff -194 -3.5 (-110) Over 22.5 (-106)
    Karolina Muchova +164 +3.5 (-122) Under 22.5 (-126)

Entering the match, Gauff was 0-7 all-time and had never won a set against Swiatek, who has three of the last six women’s Grand Slam titles, while also holding down the top ranking for 72 straight weeks.

They last met in the French Open, with the Polish star stopping her in straight sets. But Gauff built off a big first-set win that went to a tiebreaker. It was the first time she’d even gotten to four games in a set against Swiatek since their first meeting at the 2021 Italian Open.

She’s been dominant in Cincinnati, having dropped just one set in the tournament. She’s trying to become the first teen to win the Western & Southern Open since 17-year-old Linda Tuero in 1968.

For the Czech Republic’s Muchova, the path was similar to her run at the French Open, when she knocked Sabalenka out in three sets, only to lose to Swiatek in the Slam Final.

After dropping a first-set tiebreak, Muchova dropped five games the rest of the way vs Sabalenka en route to victory. She’ll be seeking her first title since winning at Seoul in 2019.

    Gauff vs Muchova Stats

    Coco Gauff
    VS
    Karolina Muchova
    7 ATP Ranking 17
    4 ATP Titles 1
    36-13 W-L (2023) 33-11
    0-0 Head-to-Head Record 0-0

It will be the first meeting between these two, and they’ve each had a strong hardcourt season. Gauff is 25-6 while Muchova is 23-7.

Muchova has had the harder path, as Gauff will be the fourth top-12 player she will have faced. Look for the American to finish off this signature run.

    Pick: Gauff (-194)

His opponent, Alex De Minaur, is hoping for his first win against Sinner, after dropping the first four head-to-heads with the Italian.

    Jannik Sinner Betting Analysis

In terms of strain, it’s been a relatively light run to the finals for Sinner, who will be looking for his second ATP title in 2023.

After a first-round bye, he breezed past unranked Matteo Berrettini in straight sets, and his Round of 16 opponent Andy Murray withdrew with an abdominal strain. After a three-set win over Gael Monfils in the quarters, Sinner bested American Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-4.

The 12th-ranked American will be the only seeded player he will face in Toronto — and Paul did much of Sinner’s heavy lifting, knocking off top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner will be trying to avoid going 0-3 in Masters 1000 events. He’s lost twice at the Miami Open, losing this year to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, and dropping the title match in 2021 to Hubert Hurkacz.

A win means the soon-to-be 22-year-old (his birthday is Aug 16) would vault him past Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud, earning a top-6 ranking for the first time in his career.

    Alex De Minaur Betting Analysis

It was a much different path to the finals for the 24-year-old Aussie, who will be facing his fourth ranked opponent in Toronto. A win would earn him his second title this season, and first Masters 1000 crown.

De Minaur started the tournament besting 11th-seed Cameron Norrie in straight sets, before dispatching Gabriel Diallo in straight sets in Round 2.

He went the distance against #8 American Taylor Fritz, winning 7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-1, before knocking off 2nd-seeded Medvedev in the quarterfinals 7-6 (7), 7-5.

De Minaur dumped Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semis, with the Spaniard’s claim to fame having knocked off 3rd-seeded Ruud in the Round of 16.

This is nothing new for De Minaur, who knocked off the 3-seed Paul, 7th-seed Dominik Koepfer and top-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas in consecutive matches to win the title in Los Cabos last week.

    Sinner vs De Minaur Predictions

These two have ripped it up on hard courts this year, with Sinner going a sharp 17-4 in his matches, with De Minaur 19-6 on the surface in 2023.

The most recent meetings between these two were in 2022. Sinner won on the hard-courts at the Aussie Open, taking it in straight sets 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-3. He also bested De Minaur at the Madrid Open on clay that same year.

    Sinner vs De Minaur Stats

    Jannik Sinner

    7 ATP Titles 7
    40-11 W-L (2023) 32-16
    4-0 Head-to-Head Record 0-4

If there’s one thing that De Minaur could use to his advantage in this match is his conditioning and his ability to keep the ball in play.

In his five matches in Toronto, he’s had 12 or fewer errors in every match, a paltry 4.3 per set. His opponents have been prone to commit more errors as he’s been able to extend rallies, with his opponents hitting 98 unforced errors, nearly nine per set.

If the Aussie can extend points against his Italian doubles partner, that might be just the gameplan to frustrate Sinner, which could add unnecessary weight to the situation as he avoids another Masters 1000 loss to a guy who had never gotten past the quarters in an event prior to Toronto.

Because of that, we’ll pick this one to go the distance.

Mackenzie McDonald vs Milos Raonic Prediction

Both the 28 year old American and 32 year old Canadian have had strong tournaments thus far. McDonald upset sixth seeded Andrey Rublev in straight sets after a routine straight set victory over Aslan Karatsev. Meanwhile, Raonic won a wild three setter with Frances Tiafoe that included a marathon first set tiebreak that he dropped in the opening round. He took care of Taro Daniel last time out.

After being dismissed in four sets by Alexander Bublik in the first round at Wimbledon, McDonald has gone 4-2 during the hard court season. Raonic beat Dennis Novak in the opening round at the All England Club, before falling to Tommy Paul in four sets. This is his first tournament in preparation for the US Open.

The players have split a pair of career battles, with McDonald taking the lone hard court match. Both duals came in 2018, and each were very competitive. There is little reason to believe this won’t be a tight test as well. Take the Over in these National Bank Open odds.

McDonald vs Raonic Picks: Over 2.5 sets (+130)

Lorenzo Musetti vs Daniil Medvedev Prediction

After beating Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets, and Thanasi Kokkinakis in three, the level of competition goes up considerably for Lorenzo Musetti. This is his first hard court tournament of the season since he opted to stay in Europe following a third round exit at Wimbledon. While he played pretty well on hard courts prior to this year’s Australian Open, it has not normally been the 21 year olds preferred surface. He is only a shade over .500 on hard courts during his career.

Medvedev, who won his lone major at the US Open in 2021, went to the semis at Wimbledon before falling in straight sets to Carlos Alcaraz. This is his first tournament since, and he received an opening round bye before beating Matteo Arnaldi 6-2, 7-5. Hard courts have traditionally been the best surface for the 27 year old. He is 29-3 on them this year, with titles in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai and Miami. He won this event two years ago.

This is the first ever meeting between Musetti and Medvedev, and one has to wonder whether it is a mismatch.

Musetti vs Medvedev Picks: Musetti Under 9 Games Won (-105)

Taylor Fritz vs Alex De Minaur Prediction

Taylor Fritz loves hard courts. The California born son of two pro tennis players, he is 27-6 on hard courts this year, and 14-10 on all other surfaces. Since losing in the second round at Wimbledon, Fritz has won the Atlanta Open, and reached the semis in DC. He beat Ugo Humbert 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-3 in the second round in Toronto following a bye.

Alex De Minaur is also in strong form. He lost in the second round at Wimbledon, and then was tripped up in the quarterfinals in Atlanta. Since then, he reached the finals in Los Cabos, falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas, and has two straight set victories in Toronto. De Minaur beat Cameron Norrie 7-5, 6-4, and Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 7-5 to reach the third round. This year De Minaur is 17-8 on hard courts, and while the the 24 year old Australian is strong on grass, this is his second best surface.

This pair has played each other six times, and each has three victories. De Minaur won their first three battles, all on hard courts. Fritz has won the last three meetings, two on hard surfaces including last year at Indian Wells and in the 2021 US Open.

Fritz va De Minaur Picks: Fritz (-125)

    Swiatek vs Muchova Prediction

It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for Swiatek in her first match at Montreal. Fresh off a tourney win in Poland, the top-ranked woman in the world had her serve broken twice in the the first set against Czechia’s Karolina Pliskova, in a set that went to tiebreak.

Swiatek prevailed, then went on to finish the match in a breeze, winning 7-6 (6), 6-2 on Wednesday.

She’ll be going up against 14th seed Karolina Muchova, who topped Sorana Cirstea 7-5, 6-4 in Round 2 play. Muchova opened the tournament with a 7-6 (6), 6-2 win over Anastasia Potapova.

This will be the third meeting between these two, who each have a win, with both matches on clay.

The most recent was at the final of this year’s French Open, with Swiatek taking the major in a match that went the distance, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Muchova won the first meeting in Prague in 2019, winning a First Round match in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

With both already having played a tiebreak in this tourney, and their (short) history of going the distance, that’s an awfully generous total of just 19.5 games.

    Pick: Over 19.5 (-125)

    Stephens vs Rybakina Prediction

If Swiatek suffered a scare, it was full on red alert for the 3rd-ranked Rybakina in her first match of the tourney. Rybakina dropped a first-set tiebrak, then needed to win a second-set tiebreak to eventually put away Jennifer Brady 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Stephens has also just played a single match, after opponent Victoria Azarenka was forced to withdraw from their Round 2 match due to injury.

The American did top Anhelina Kalininina 6-4, 7-6 (2) in her Round 1 matchup.

This will be the first meeting between Rybakina and Stephens, but the Kazakhstani star has a distinct advantage when it comes to surface. Rybakina is an impressive 22-5 in her hard court matches this year, while Stephens is just 5-8.

However, with Rybakina’s slow start, and the fact that three of Stephens’ last four matches have gone the distance, I’m again targeting the total.

    Pick: Over 20.5 (-120)

    Bouzkova vs Kasatkina Prediction

We finish with 10th-seeded Daria Kasatkina, who’s played two clean matches, topping Elise Martens and Anna Blinkova in straight sets.

She now draws unseeded Marie Bouzkova, who upended 5th-seeded Carolina Garcia in three sets: 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

It was just Bouzkova’s third win against a tournament seed this year, and two of them have come against Garcia.

Kasatkina has the first two wins in this head-to-head, winning in the 2021 final of the Phillip Island Trophy Melbourne event 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. She also bested Bouzkova in Ostrava in 2020, winning 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

Both have losing records on hard court this season, though, with Bouzkova at 8-10 and Kasatkina at 8-9. I don’t know if Bouzkova wins, but I think she plays Kasatkina tough.

    Pick: Bouzkova +2.5 (-105)

    Tallon Griekspoor Betting Analysis

Of the two, Griekspoor’s spot in Sunday’s final is the least surprising. The Dutchman has captured a pair of 250 series titles already this season, the latest coming seven weeks ago in his home country. He followed up that result with a quarterfinal showing on grass in Germany at a 500 series event, before bowing out in the opening round at Wimbledon.

Griekspoor hadn’t played at the ATP level since his loss at the All England Club but didn’t show any rust once arriving in Washington. He made quick work of Liam Brody in the Round of 32, before knocking off Gael Monfils in the Round of 16.

Griekspoor posted a straight sets win over 16th seed J.J. Wolf in the quarters and then took down top seed Taylor Fritz 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in Saturday’s semis. The 27-year-old leaned heavily on his big serve and heavy groundstrokes to get past the American, smashing 13 aces and 40 winners.

He controlled the baseline winning 47 of the 81 points, and also managed to earn three breaks. Fritz entered play having won 80 of his past 82 service games, but had no answers for Griekspoor in the final set, dropping the last five games.

The victory was Griekspoor’s first ever over a top-10 opponent and puts him in an excellent spot to win the biggest title of his career on Sunday.

    Daniel Evans Betting Analysis

Evans meanwhile, began the week having lost seven of his past eight ATP matches. He’d made it past the opening round of a tournament only once since an April showing in Barcelona, but over the last few days, he’s been a giant slayer.

The Brit survived a three-setter in the Round of 32 and hasn’t dropped a set since. He’s taken down back-to-back top-20 opponents, including a win versus world number 10 Frances Tiafoe in the quarters.

Evans actually had to play twice on Friday, finishing his Round of 16 match before upsetting Tiafoe. Fatigue was a factor in Saturday’s semifinal match versus fifth seed Grigor Dimitrov, as the Brit had little juice. However, Evans was able to lay back and play mistake-free tennis, while Dimitrov couldn’t stop making errors.

Dimitrov made 30 unforced errors compared to only 10 for Evans. The Brit only hit one ace and nine winners but stayed patient to earn the fourth finals appearance of his career.

    Griekspoor vs Evans Predictions

Evans owns a 2-0 lifetime record versus Griekspoor, taking him down twice on indoor hard courts last year. It might be tempting to bet on his Cinderella run continuing, but how he’s playing is not sustainable. Evans is relying far too much on his opponent making mistakes, rather than pushing the action himself.

    Griekspoor vs Evans Stats

    Tallon Griekspoor
    VS
    Daniel Evans
    37 WTA Ranking 30
    2 WTA Titles 1
    27-12 W-L (2023) 12-18
     0-2 Head-to-Head Record 2-0

He won’t be able to just sit back and wait for Griekspoor errors, because the Dutchman is going to bring the heat both on his serve and from the baseline. Griekspoor is playing some of the best tennis of his career at the moment, and with a victory will move to number 21 in the world. He’s already won 27 matches in 2023, 10 more than a season ago.

Evans on the other hand, has just one career title on his resume, and at 33 likely won’t have many opportunities to play for a trophy in the future. With just 12 wins compared to 18 losses this season, he’s clearly playing over his head at the moment, and we should expect him to come crashing back down to earth on Sunday.

    Pick: Tallon Griekspoor Moneyline (-125)

    Zverev Defeats Arthur Fils

Fils came into the match with a ton of confidence, as he should, since he defeated Casper Ruud in the previous match. But he wasn’t enough to keep Zverev away, as the German went onto defeat. him 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour and a half.

The 26-year old is looking for his first title since winning the 2021 ATP Finals. Between then and now, he suffered a serious injury, and he’s been chipping away since coming back.

He defeated Fils by coming out strong early, and shutting his opponent down fast. He managed to convert three of four break points, and saved three as well. He out served his opponent, recording seven aces, to Fils four, and managed to be more consistent with his serve.

This is now Zverev’s first tour-level final match since last May, and his first since he suffered his ankle injury at the French Open last year.

    Djere Perfect Against Zhang Zhizhen

World No. 57 has been having himself a week. The 28-year old put up a near perfect showing against Zhizhen in the semifinals to book himself a spot in his first tour-level final of 2023. He defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-2 in just about an hour.

Djere should be extremely happy with the way he played, one could say it was one of his best matches of his career. He didn’t even face a single break point against Zhizhen.

    Head-to-Head

These two have played each other twice before, but haven’t seen one another since 2021. Both of their previous matches came in 2021, where Zverev won both in straight sets. Their most recent match was in the round of 32 at the 2021 French Open.

    Zverev vs Djere Pick

This should be an exciting match to watch. Normally, I would say this would be Zverev’s to lose, but Djere is having one of his best weeks.

Both players have the ability to win the match. Both will be relying heavily on their strength and power. From the baseline to their serves, both will look catch their opponents off guard. But regardless of the winner here, look for the match to go the distance.

    Fils Upsets Casper Ruud

It felt like a no doubter from the start, as Fils came out strong against the No. 1 seed Ruud. The 19-year old went onto win 6-0, 6-4, to collect his first win against a Top 20 player.

In just 78 minutes, Fils managed 35 winners to his opponent’s six. In the first set alone, he managed to convert three of his six break points, and 25 of those winners came off his electric forehand.

Fils has had an excellent week so far, and will be looking to bring that to the semifinals. This will be his first final four played outside of France, and his first semifinal appearance at a ATP 500 level tournament.

    The Home Favorite

Is Zverev the home favorite? I think that’s a fair statement.

The German isn’t still quite at the level he was prior to his injury last year, but he’s been chipping away, and making it deep in tournaments. This tournament in particular holds a special place in Zverev’s heart, as it’s the tournament that put him on the map almost 10 years ago.

In just about an hour and a half, Zverev booked his spot in the semifinals by defeating France’s Luca Van Assche 6-3, 6-4. En route to the win, Zverev collected eight aces, with just one double fault, and managed a 82 win percentage when landing his first serve.

He’s now 31-18 in 2023, and will look to add a couple more wins to that as he hopes to continue in the tournament.

    First Career Meeting

Much like the other semifinal happening, this will be the first time these two will face each other in their careers as well.

    0 Head-to-Head Wins 0

    Fils vs Zverev Pick

These two have a similar style of play, in the sense that they are strong baseline players who rely heavily on their power.

Zverev is obviously coming into this match with a bit more experience, and the help of a home crowd, but Fils has been playing well this week and overall on the surface.

Both Fils and Zverev have the ability to win this match. Neither player has dropped a set yet this week, so it could really go either way. But regardless of the winner here, just look for the match to go the distance.

    Djere Upsets Lorenzo Musetti

The 28-year old went onto defeat the defending champion Musetti earlier today to advance to the semifinals. It wasn’t even close, as Djere won 5-7, 6-3.

Djere recorded six aces with no double faults, where Musetti had two aces to two double faults. He landed 95 percent of his first serves, and of those, was able to convert 75 percent of those into points.

From start to finish, he outplayed Musetti and just stunned the crowd.

    Zhizhen’s Reaches First Tour Semifinal

The 26-year old hasn’t played a tournament since the Swiss Open at the end of June, and he had an early round exit there. He came out strong this past week in Germany, and as only dropped one set in his three matches so far.

In his quarterfinal match he defeated home crowd favorite Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 6-4, and took control of the match from the beginning to the end.

    First Meeting
This will be the first time Djere and Zhizhen will meet on tour.

    Djere vs Zhizhen Pick

There’s not a ton on either player here. Both have had a similar tournament, winning the matches they’ve been expected to win. The biggest shock was when Djere defeated Musetti last round. Djere should be coming into the match on a high, with his momentum going, but if he can’t control it, it could work against him.

But Djere is the favorite here to win outright, with -165 odds. This was expected coming off the quarterfinal match, so look for him to take the semifinal in straight sets.

Best Bet: Laslo Djere 2-0 (+125)

    Clutch Tennis From Djokovic

Djokovic, the betting favorite from the get-go, had a relatively smooth path to the final.

He dropped a set to the big-serving Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth round. And he lost the first set to No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.

But his straight-sets win over No. 8 seed Jannik Sinner in the semis Friday was a master class in using his vastly more extensive experience in the big moments.

When things got tight, Djokovic raised his level. When Sinner had opportunities, he made some loose errors.

Djokovic saved all six breakpoints he faced. And he won 60 percent of his second-serve points.

His biggest issue was a (rare) hindrance call after he let out a. yell as Sinner was about to return the ball.

    Alcaraz Rolls over Medvedev

The 20-year-old Spaniard’s early draw was friendly. But it allowed him to gain momentum and confidence on a still-unfamiliar surface.

    https://twitter.com/Wimbledon/status/1679952154193215489

And by the time he ran into No. 6 seed Holger Rune in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Daniil Medvedev in the semis, he had a head of steam. He dispatched both with alacrity, in straight sets, and reinforced the message that beyond Djokovic he was the biggest threat in the draw to win the title.

Alcaraz’s only problem is that the last man standing in the way of winning his first Wimbledon title is … Djokovic.

    Alcaraz vs Djokovic Match History

    Year Tournament Surface Score Winner
    2023 French Open (SF) Outdoor Clay 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 Djokovic
    2022 Madrid Masters (SF) Outdoor Clay 6-7 (5), 7-5, 7-6 (5) Alcaraz

The two previous meetings between the two came on clay, arguably Alcaraz’s best surface at the moment (although his first Grand Slam title came on hard courts at the US Open, without Djokovic in the draw).

Much might be made about Alcaraz winning their first meeting in Madrid. But Djokovic had played just one tournament in the first 3 1/2 months of the season; he was far from being in top form. And if there’s a place to get the Serb these days, it’s in a best-of-three set format.

    In best-of-five, it’s a tough ask.

    https://youtu.be/rQagJ45Dc3g

Their highly-anticipated meeting in the French Open semifinals was a bit of a dud. Mostly because Alcaraz cramped up – not necessarily because of the physical, although Djokovic can do that to an opponent, but because the pressure and nerves and stress hit him in that big occasion.

He’s only had a month to digest and process that and take steps to try to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

    Alcaraz vs Djokovic Prediction

Until – if  – Djokovic shows signs of slowing down, he’ll remain the best bet in a major. And as a man who’s already won seven Wimbledons (including the last four) and hasn’t lost at the All-England Club since 2017, it would take an otherworldly effort from Alcaraz and a sub-par day from Djokovic to cause the upset.

There is some value in the moneyline and the game spread. But given how Djokovic has out-aced most of his opponents, and Alcaraz has averaged fewer than half a dozen per match (and wasn’t facing the best returner in the world), there is value in including that prop as well.

    Ons Jabeur Betting Analysis

Jabeur was priced at +1500 to win the Wimbledon crown prior to the tournament starting. After knocking off three unseeded opponents to start, she’s been mowing down top-10 opponents this week.

Jabeur cruised past 9th seed Petra Kvitova in the Round of 16, and then proceeded to knock off Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina, the second and third seed, in back-to-back matches.

In both the quarterfinal and semifinal she dropped the opening set, but roared back to take the next two in convincing fashion. This marks her third Grand Slam final in her last five majors, and her second straight at the All England Club. She fell last year to Rybakina in straight sets, but has been building towards her first Grand Slam title for quite some time.

Jabeur has improved upon her world ranking dramatically in each of the past three years, and a victory on Saturday would put her back among the women’s elite. Unlike her previous opponent Sabalenka, she won’t give the match away and will force Vondrousova to beat her. Jabeur had just 15 unforced errors in her semifinal three-setter, compared to 45 by Sabalenka.

    Marketa Vondrousova Betting Analysis

Vondrousova has battled phases of inconsistent ground strokes during her Wimbledon run, but in each match she’s found a way to turn the tide. After a pair of three-setters against fourth seed Jessica Pegula and 32nd seed Marie Bouzkova in the quarters and Round of 16, Vondrousova barely broke a sweat in the semis.

She dropped only six games to Svitolina on Center Court, ending the Ukrainian’s own Cinderella run. Vondrousova is the first unseeded women’s finalist at Wimbledon in the Open Era (since 1968), and the first since Billy Jean King back in 1963.

The 2020 Olympic silver medallist and 2019 French Open runner-up is not new to big stage tennis, but it’s been a while since she’s competed at such a high level. Injuries and inconsistent play has been to blame, but this is a woman who was the top ranked junior at one point, and one that has already dispatched three top-20 players at this tournament.

    Vondrousova vs Jabeur Predictions

Vondrousova has started quickly in all but one of her matches at this year’s Wimbledon. She’s dropped only two sets, and her ability to play with both power and finesse will give anyone trouble, including Jabeur.

    Vondrousova vs Jabeur Stats

    Marketa Vondrousova

    Ons Jabeur

    1 WTA Titles 4
    28-10 W-L (2023) 22-9
    3-3 Head-to-Head Record 3-3

As good as the ladder has looked knocking off two of the top-three players in the world recently, she has been a slow starter and an inconsistent server. She’s boasted a first serve percentage north of 54% only once in her last five matches. Her opposition has failed to punish her second serve, but Vondrousova won’t follow suit.

Vondrousova has dominated in the return game at Wimbledon, and has made the most of her break point opportunities. She’s converted over 50% of those chances in the last four matches alone, which is exactly the type of efficiency we’re looking for when backing an underdog.

    Carlos Alcaraz Betting Analysis

Hard to believe, but prior to late last month Alcaraz had never reached a grass court quarterfinal. He quickly put an end to that at the Queen’s Club, winning all five of his matches en route to his first grass court title.

He entered this tournament with the second shortest Wimbledon odds, and you can make the argument he’s looked just at good as the favorite Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz was clinical in his dismissal of Rune, facing just one break point in the entire match. He won 80% of his first serve points to improve to 2-1 lifetime versus Rune, becoming the youngest Wimbledon male semifinalist since Djokovic in 2007.

Rune may have won the flashier points, but Alcaraz was the more consistent player, using his immense power and deft touch to control the play. He didn’t make a single unforced error in the second set, breaking his opponent late to take a commanding lead.

Alcaraz has dropped just two sets all tournament, and is riding a 10-match winning streak on grass. Even he seemed surprised by his dominant quarterfinal performance, but a surface that was once considered a weakness has now become a major strength.

    Daniil Medvedev Betting Analysis

Medvedev’s path to the semis was far more arduous. He needed to rally from a two sets to one deficit in the quarters to end the fairytale run of American Christopher Eubanks. Medvedev was caught off guard early as Eubanks kept landing blow after blow, but the Russian composed himself and leaned on his experience to outlast the American.

In doing so, Medvedev won for just the fourth time ever in 14 career five-set matches. He’s 2-4 in five-setters at Wimbledon, and will need to rely heavily on his defense to keep pace with Alcaraz.

Fortunately for Medvedev, that part of his game is a major strength. He committed just 13 unforced errors in his marathon match against Eubanks, and he’ll need to replicate that effort in the semifinals.

The 2021 US Open champ has a 40-19 record all-time on grass, but is in the midst of his longest run ever at Wimbledon. Prior to this season, he had never exceeded Round 4 in five career appearances, bowing out in the 3rd round or earlier four times.

    Alcaraz vs Medvedev Predictions

This will actually mark the second meeting between the two at the All England Club. Back in 2021, Medvedev mopped the floor with Alcaraz, dropping only seven games in a straight sets win. Alcaraz was much greener on grass as an 18-year-old, and he extracted some revenge in their latest meeting.

The Spaniard cruised past the Russian 6-3, 6-2 in the Indian Wells final earlier this year. Alcaraz’s form is impossible to bet against straight up at the moment, but there’s a chance he’s looking past Medvedev to a potential championship matchup versus Djokovic.

    Alcaraz vs Medvedev Stats

The world number one’s father was reportedly filming Djokovic’s practice session on Wednesday, which caused the seven-time Wimbledon champ to demand for privacy.

Medvedev won’t be an easy out, and has been compared to an Octopus by fellow players for his ability to get so many balls back in play. He’s 6-3 against top-10 opposition this season and has just as many title as Alcaraz (5) in 2023.

I’m still expecting Alcaraz to prevail, but this will be his toughest match yet. Grab the +4.5 games on Medvedev with the expectation that this match goes at least four sets.

A Sweet Draw Quarter for Sinner

From the start, with No. 4 seed Casper Ruud as his projected quarterfinal opponent, Jannik Sinner was the favorite to get to the final four even with his abject lack of experience on grass.

Sinner, now 21, lost in the first round of qualifying at Wimbledon in 2019, when he was 17. He came back after the 2020 edition was cancelled and lost in the first round in 2021 to Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, who was ranked No. 48 to his No. 23.

But a year ago, ranked No. 13, he made the quarterfinals and defeated Stan Wawrinka, big-serving John Isner, and the even-younger Carlos Alcaraz en route.

This year, he goes one step further – at least. But while that’s an impressive run, Sinner has yet to face a seed through his first five matches. A number of those opponents are better on the clay, as well; but Sinner has lost just two sets on his way to the rematch with Djokovic.

    Djokovic Rarely in Trouble

Djokovic, who has won the last four Wimbledons and was a massive favorite in the Wimbledon odds coming in, has had a much more regulation run.

He faced a tough task in No. 17 seed Hubert Hurkacz in the round of 16, and the hard-hitting Russian Andrey Rublev (the No. 7 seed) in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic dropped one set to each of them, with the clash against Hurkacz by far his biggest challenge of the tournament.

His biggest issue has been … people watching him practice.

Meetings between the two have been surprisingly rare – just twice have they played.

The last time was in the Wimbledon quarterfinals last year, with Sinner up two sets to love before falling in five.

    Sinner vs Djokovic Match History

    Year Tournament Surface Score Winner
    2022 Wimbledon (QF) Grass 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 Djokovic
2021 Monte Carlo Masters (R32) Outdoor Clay 6-4, 6-2 Djokovic

Djokovic hasn’t lost at Wimbledon since 2017, when he retired early. in the second set of a quarterfinal match against the now-retired Tomas Berdych, during the period when he was coming back from elbow surgery.

He has earned nearly $22 million at Wimbledon alone in his career. And with his 91-10 record, has lost more Wimbledon matches than Sinner had ever even played coming into this year’s event.

    Sinner vs Djokovic Prediction

Sinner will have learned from last year’s match, when he may have felt pretty confident about his chances after being up two sets to none. He has more experience now, and making that first run a year ago has direct consequences on his ability to repeat that – and more – in 2023.

But Djokovic will also have picked up some intel. And Sinner’s biggest challenge will be to get to two sets to love up.

That’s unlikely to happen. He has won a lot of matches this fortnight, but none of them against players even close to the calibre of the Serb, who has looked as good as ever in getting to the final four.

That said, Djokovic’s odds of winning were at -630 Wednesday night, and had dropped to -465 by Thursday morning. So Sinner is getting some backing for the upset in the Sinner vs Djokovic odds.

Can Sinner take a set in our Wimbledon predictions? Perhaps one. But although anything is possible, this doesn’t look to be the year when the man who hasn’t lost at the All-England Club in six years is knocked off his perch.

  • Aryna Sabalenka is a -155 favorite over Ons Jabeur in their Wimbledon women’s singles semifinal on Thursday, July 13
  • Jabeur was a Wimbledon finalist last year
  • Sabalenka is the only woman to reach the semifinals of each of the past four Grand Slam tournaments

  • As she faces Ons Jabeur in the semifinals, Aryna Sabalenka is looking like the one to beat for the Wimbledon women’s singles title. This is her fourth straight appearance in a Grand Slam final four. She’s the favorite to win the tournament and a favorite in the Jabeur vs Sabalenka odds

Jabeur, though, won’t be easily overcome. She was a Wimbledon finalist last year.

If Sabalenka defeats Jabeur, she’ll overtake Iga Swiatek as the #1-ranked player in the WTA. Oddsmakers are anticipating both of these outcomes. It’s Sabalenka who’s set as the -155 favorite in this match.

Sabalenka is the +135 favorite in the Wimbledon odds. You’ll get a +200 betting line on Jabeur to win it all.

    Sabalenka Has Keys to Victory

American Madison Keys came into the Wimbledon quarterfinals with a 9-0 record on grass this season, but it mattered little to her Belarussian opponent. World #2 Sabalenka whipped the 25th-seeded Keys in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

Sabalenka, the reigning Australian Open champion, is 17-1 in majors this year, equaling a mark set in 2015 by Serena Williams. The match with Keys was about two players with power games. The average rally per set was just 2.78 shots. There were 62 rallies the ended in less than four shots.

Sabalenka hit 17 winners while committing only 14 unforced errors.  The Belarussian won the last four games to take the match. In the fourth round against Ekaterina Alexandrova, Sabalenka won the final eight games of the match.

Sabalenka and Swiatek are the only WTA players with 40 victories on court this year.

    Jabeur Wins Rematch With Rybakina

In a rematch of last year’s Wimbledon women’s singles final, this time the outcome went Jabeur’s way. As is usually the case when Jabeur and Elena Rybakina clash on court, it took three sets to determine the outcome. Despite squandering set point in the first set, the Tunisian rallied to win 6-7(5-7), 6-4, 6-1.

It was the first rematch of a previous year’s final at Wimbledon since Serena and Venus Williams faced each other in successive finals in 2008-09.

    Jabeur vs Sabalenka Match History

    2020 WTA Roland Garros (R32) Outdoor Clay 7-6(7-5), 2-6, 6-3 Jabeur

Jabeur is on a history-making mission. Already, she’s been the first Arab woman to reach the final of a Grand Slam event. She’s still looking to become the first from an Arab nation to earn a Grand Slam title. Last year, Jabeur also reached the final of the US Open.

Sabalenka has beaten Jabeur three times in four meetings. That includes a straight-set triumph in the 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinals. Jabeur’s only win between the two came on the clay courts at the 2020 French Open. In the Wimbledon semifinal for the second successive year, world #6 Jabeur is 33-12 in her career on grass and 6-2 in 2023.

    Jabeur vs Sabalenka Prediction

Sabalenka is 33-17 on grass since 2017, including a 6-1 mark this year. Jabeur was especially sharp against Rybakina, smacking 42 winners.

Jabeur has enough variety in her repertoire to throw the hard-hitting Sabalenka off her game. But the Belarussian has been remarkably solid when playing on fast surfaces. She’ll figure out Jabeur in time to ultimately take the match in three sets.

    Jabeur vs Sabalenka Picks:

    • Sabalenka to win (-155)
    • Sabalenka 2-1 (+310)

It’s Vondrousova who is getting the favor of the oddsmakers in this match. The Czech player is the -140 chalk to move into the Wimbledon final in the Svitolina vs Vondrousova odds.

Svitolina is a +450 betting choice to win the title in the Wimbledon odds. Bet Vondrousova and you’ll get odds of +550.

    Svitolina Stuns Swiatek

At one time the #3 player in the world, current #76 Svitolina is rediscovering that swagger on the grass courts of the All-England Club. She shocked Swiatek, the world’s #1 player, 7-5, 6-7(7-5), 6-2 in their quarterfinal match that took two hours and 50 minutes to complete.

It’s her seventh career win over the top-ranked player in the world, but Svitolina’s first since 2018. Svitolina has beaten four Grand Slam winners en route to this semifinal, with Venus Williams, Sofia Kenin and Victoria Azarenka joining Swiatek as her victims. It’s only the third time that’s happened in a single tournament during the open era.

Returning to action in April after giving birth to a daughter, Svitolina is the third wildcard entry to reach a Wimbledon semifinal and the first since Germany’s Sabine Lisicki in 2011.

Against Swiatek, Svitolina battled back from 5-3 down to win the first set. She could’ve won in straight sets, but squandered a 4-1 lead in the tiebreak. Undaunted, she rattled off five straight wins in the deciding third set.

    Vondrousova Outlasts Pegula

A match couldn’t be much closer than the quarterfinal contest between Vondrousova and Pegula. Vondrousova’s 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory saw her win 90 games, one more than Pegula. It was a match that featured wild momentum swings.

Vondrousova was down 1-4 and love-30 in the third set. Then she won five successive games to take the match. Vondrousova also broke Pegula’s service three times to win the first set.

    Vondrousova vs Svitolina Match History

    Year Tournament Surface Score Winner
2021 Olympics (SF) Outdoor Hard 6-3, 6-1 Vondrousova
2020 WTA Rome (QF) Outdoor Clay 6-3, 6-0 Vondrousova

    2018 WTA Stuttgart (R16) Outdoor Clay 2-6, 6-1, 3-2 (retired) Svitolina
    2018 WTA Doha (R32) Outdoor Hard 6-2, 6-4 Svitolina

The Czech player has knocked off four seeded players to reach the semifinals, joining Zheng Jie (2008) and Barbora Strycova (2019) as the only players to accomplish this feat in the Wimbledon women’s draw. Vondrousova has won three matches in a row from players ranked among the world’s top five.

Although Svitolina has won three of five previous meetings with Vondrousova, she hasn’t bettered her Czech opponent since 2019. In their last two matches, Vondrousova won in straight sets. She’s dropped just seven games over the course of those two matches.

    Svitolina vs Vondrousova Prediction

While Vondrousova is enjoying a fine run, and has a Grand Slam final appearance on her resume, her history on grass courts is sketchy. She’d won just four main draw matches on the surface coming into this tournament and only once at Wimbledon. Vondrousova hit 35 unforced errors during her win over Pegula, a factor that the wily veteran Svitolina can exploit.

It will be a tight match, but go with the savvy experience of Svitolina to win the day.

    Svitolina vs Vondrousova Picks:

    • Svitolina to win (+110)
    • Svotilina 2-1 (+370)
