• The 15th Presidents Cup from Royal Montreal Golf Club starts Thursday, September 26th
• Team USA is the -270 favorite to win their 13th Presidents Cup in 15 all-time attempts

• The Presidents Cup is back, this time being contested on International soil, with the Americans as favorites against an underdog International contingent. For the second time Royal Montreal is the venue, having hosted it in 2007, when the United States won by five points. Team USA has historically dominated the biennial event and it would be pretty surprising should a loaded USA squad not emerge victorious.

Unlike the Ryder Cup, which is played over three days, this event boasts a four-day battle, with Thursday featuring foursomes competition (more commonly known as alternate shot). Friday is four-ball, with Saturday using both formats, and Sunday being singles action. In 2022, Team USA was a heavy -700 favorite entering the tournament, so the -270 this time around points towards it being a slightly more even battle.

The last time this event was contested on foreign soil was in 2019, and it was a narrow duel, with Team USA winning by a slight margin of two points.

American Squad Stacked With Talent

American captain Jim Furyk has assembled an extremely talented squad to take on Mike Weir’s International team. To depict the contrast, eight top-15 golfers in the world are on Team USA, while Hideki Matsuyama is the lone player in the top-15 from the opposition.

Team USA is led by Scottie Scheffler, who won a whopping seven times this season, while Xander Schauffele took home two major championship trophies in the Wanamaker (PGA) and Claret Jug (Open Championship). Those two, along with Wyndham Clark and Keegan Bradley, won events on the PGA Tour in 2024.

2024 Presidents Cup Teams & World Rankings

Team USA Team Internationals
Scottie Scheffler (1) Hideki Matsuyama (7)
Xander Schauffele (2) Adam Scott (17)
Collin Morikawa (4) Sungjae Im (20)
Wyndham Clark (6) Tom Kim (23)
Patrick Cantlay (9) Jason Day (33)
Sahith Theegala (11) Byeong Hun An (35)
Keegan Bradley (13)* Corey Conners (37)*
Russell Henley (14)* Min Woo Lee (40)*
Sam Burns (18)* Taylor Pendrith (44)*
Brian Harman (19)* Christiaan Bezuidenhout (45)*
Tony Finau (20)* Si Woo Kim (50)*
Max Homa (25)* Mackenzie Hughes (60)*

*Denotes Captain’s Pick

The International squad had two players who won, with Hideki Matsuyama doing it twice, along with Taylor Pendrith. Captain Weir has three Canadians to have for home support in Pendrith, Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes.

Past Presidents Cup Results

Winner Margin Year
USA Won by 5 pts 2022
USA Won by 2 pts 2019
USA Won by 8 pts 2017
USA Won by 1 pt 2015
USA Won by 3 pts 2013

All-time, the United States has absolutely dominated this event, winning 12 times, losing just once (1998), and tying once (2003).

2024 Presidents Cup Pick

It’s really hard to poke holes in the States’ game and see a way how they’ll lose over the course of four days. The lowest ranked player on Team USA is Max Homa (25th), which is still a higher world ranking than eight of the twelve International contingent.

The United States has much more depth than the International team along with winning pedigree. Three players from that side have never won a PGA Tour event. Though it’s not exactly amazing value at -270, don’t overthink this one – Team USA is just too good.

Pick: United States (-270)

• Defending champion Sahith Theegala is the +1100 favorite over Wyndham Clark

• If you blinked you might’ve missed the PGA Tour off-season. There’s another PGA Tour event less than two weeks after the FedEx Cup-winner Scottie Scheffler was crowned. The Procore Championship (formerly Fortinet Championship) features six golfers who will be competing in the upcoming Presidents Cup teeing it up.

Heading the pack is defending champion Sahith Theegala, followed by 2023 US Open-champion Wyndham Clark. Max Homa, who was a captain’s pick to be on the American squad, won this event in both 2021 and 2022.

Going low is imperative for success at Silverado Country Club, with all 17 winners in the event’s history shooting double-digit under-par scores en route to the title.

Procore Championship Odds 2024

Golfers Odds
Sahith Theegala +1100

Jhonattan Vegas +5000
Doug Ghim +5000
Adam Svensson +5000

The betting favorite is Sahith Theegala, who won by two strokes last year in Napa to capture his first PGA Tour victory. He’s followed by Wyndham Clark, who was victorious at Pebble Beach earlier in 2024.

Max Homa Thrives at Silverado Country Club

It’s safe to say that apart from a run at a green jacket in Augusta, Max Homa’s 2024 campaign was a disappointment. He’s failed to crack the top-10 in his last nine individual events – but everything is thrown out the window when he comes to his personal playground. Homa won back-to-back Procore Championships in 2021 and 2022, then followed that up with a tie for seventh last year.

Past Five Procore Championship Winners

Year Winner
2023 Sahith Theegala
2022 Max Homa
2021 Max Homa
2020 Stewart Cink
2019 Cameron Champ

There aren’t a ton of ready-made options who can be seriously viewed as threats to Homa, if he’s on his game. There are certainly horses for courses, and this tournament is just that for Homa. At +2000 odds to win outright, you can get him at odds longer than the top-four golfers on the board. Given his recent history at this course, I’d be willing to roll the dice that he’ll find himself in contention come Sunday evening.

2024 Procore Championship Picks and Value Bets

1. Brendon Todd (+3500): Tour veteran Brendan Todd enters this week in decent form, with a T-12 and a T-22 the last two times teeing it up. He’s also popped at Silverado Country Club, with a tie for ninth in 2022, and a sixth place showing last year.
2. Eric Cole (+4000): It feels that it’s only a matter of time before Eric Cole finds himself in the winners circle. He finished last season with three top-10s in his final seven starts and played the weekend in eight straight tourneys. Last year, he was fourth at this event.
3. Rico Hoey (+6000): Rico Hoey has placed inside the top-30 in five of his last six tournaments. On three occasions, those resulted in top-10s. Just four starts ago he was runner-up in a playoff at the ISCO Championship. He’s an intriguing name in the top 10/20 markets.

• The 2024 PGA season concludes this weekend in Atlanta with the Tour Championship.
• The top 30 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will battle it out at East Lake Golf Club for the first-place prize of $25,000,000.
• Read below to learn more about the Tour Championship and check out our favorite picks for the tournament.

• The FedEx Cup will be awarded this weekend in Atlanta, as the top 30 PGA golfers from the 2024 season descend on East Lake Golf Club. Scottie Scheffler is, understandably, a big favorite to lift the Cup this year, but he struggled last week at the BMW Championship. Can he hold off Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama and others? Tune in to the Golf Channel, NBC and Peacock Thursday-Sunday to see who wins a cool $25 million.

Tour Championship and FedEx Cup: How It Works

This week’s tournament is unique in the way it is set up. First, only 30 golfers will compete. Only the 30 players with the highest FedEx Cup points totals will be in attendance.

Second, Scottie Scheffler will start at 10-under par. Yes, you read that right. Since Scheffler is the current points leader, he’ll parlay that into a -10 starting score this week.

The other top golfers will get a head start on this week’s scoring, too. Here’s a look at how the advantages play out:

• Scottie Scheffler: 10 under
• Xander Schauffele: 8 under
• Hideki Matsuyama: 7 under
• Keegan Bradley: 6 under
• Ludvig Åberg: 5 under
• Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay: 4 under
• Sungjae Im, Sahith Theegala, Shane Lowry, Adam Scott, Tony Finau: 3 under
• Byeong Hun An, Viktor Hovland, Russell Henley, Akshay Bhatia, Robert MacIntyre: 2 under
• Billy Horschel, Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Matthieu Pavon, Taylor Pendrith: 1 under
• Chris Kirk, Tom Hoge, Aaron Rai, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Justin Thomas: Even

Scheffler is hard enough to beat even when he starts with the same score as the other golfers. Give him a 2-stroke lead over Schauffele (and an even bigger lead over the rest of the field) and watch out!

With those stroke advantages built in, this weekend’s tournament simply becomes about winning. Lowest score takes home the $25 million first-place prize, but there are plenty of other big paydays coming to all the players who earned a spot in Atlanta.

Tour Championship Picks

• Scottie Scheffler to win (+115)
• Keegan Bradley top 5 (+200)

They’re not the best odds, but if we’re handing Scheffler a 2-stroke lead over Schauffele and an even bigger advantage over everyone else in the field, I like him to win. He rises to the occasion on the biggest stages with the most at stake — the Olympics, The Masters, the Players Championship, etc.

With $25 million on the line, the pressure might get to some of the other guys. But Scheffler keeps his cool even in the most stressful moments. I’ll snag the +115 odds on Scheffler to win over at bet365 with a smile on my face.

Meanwhile, Keegan Bradley sits at No. 4 on the leaderboard entering this week’s championship. He came into the BMW Championship having barely qualified, as he had the 50th-most points for the 50-player tournament. But then … he went out and won!

Now he’s all the way up to No. 4. I think he’ll be able to maintain a top-5 position this weekend. And at +200 odds to do so, he’s a good value.

Tour Championship Longshot Pick

• Ludvig Åberg to win (+1800)

If Scheffler doesn’t win (which is a big if), who is in the best position to steal the FedEx Cup crown? Look no further than Ludvig Åberg, who finished at -11 last week. That was only a shot off of Bradley’s winning score.

He’ll need to overcome a 5-stroke advantage from Scheffler, but hey, he was 12 strokes better than Scheffler at the BMW Championship last week. Xander Schauffele is another guy who you could put some money on to win, as he has less distance to cover in catching Scheffler, starting only 2 strokes back. But his odds are a meager +250 to win, meaning he’s not a great value.

I’ll be placing a small wager on Åberg to play at an elite level for a second week in a row. If Scheffler doesn’t win, I think the young golfer from Sweden is a solid pick to win his first-ever FedEx Cup. Tune in to NBC and Peacock this weekend for the final PGA action of the season!

• The top 50 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings will head to Colorado, with the top 30 points scorers at the end of the tournament qualifying for the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta.
• Check out the section below to learn about our favorite picks for this week’s tournament.

• The BMW Championship tees off in Colorado on Thursday, featuring the top 50 golfers in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup standings. If you’ve been paying attention to golf at all this year, it will come as no surprise that Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are currently in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. After this weekend’s tournament, the top 30 golfers in the standings will head to Atlanta for the Tour Championship next week. Coverage for the BMW Championship can be found on the USA Network, Peacock and NBC.

BMW Championship Picks

• Hideki Matsuyama top-5 finish (+333)
• Viktor Hovland top-8 finish (+180)

I’m going to ride the hot hand. Matsuyama has been playing some incredible golf the past couple of weeks. He shot an opening-round 63 to start the Paris Olympics and ended up finishing in third place at that tournament. He won the St. Jude FedEx Cup tournament last weekend. He’s hitting the ball well right now and seems to rise to the pressure.

I’m not going to pick him to win, but I do like the value of betting Matsuyama to finish in the top 5. You can find +333 odds for a Matsuyama top-5 finish over at bet365, which is a great play.

Next, Viktor Hovland always seems to show up during the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He finished tied for second last week, shaking off a rough opening round score of 70. Last year, he won the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship the following weekend.

You can get Hovland to finish in the top 10 at +137 at bet365, but I like the slightly better odds of +180 for a top 8 finish. I think Hovland is poised to finish this season strong once again and I want in on that action.

BMW Championship Longshot Picks

• Viktor Hovland to win (+1600)
• Nick Dunlap 1st round top-5 finish (+800)

I detailed my thoughts on Hovland above and discussed how well he plays in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. So while I’m going to put a full unit bet on him to finish in the top 8 this weekend in Colorado, I’m also going to place a smaller wager on Hovland to win the BMW Championship outright.

You only have to go back to 2023 to find proof that Hovland can win on this stage. He had a good showing last weekend and I think he’s poised to do big things again this week at Castle Pines Golf Club.

As for Dunlap, he had to scratch and claw his way through the last round of the St. Jude Championship last weekend just to make the top-50 cut. By making par on the 18th hole, he vaulted from 51st to 48th, clinching his spot this week and knocking Tom Kim out of the top 50.

I’m willing to put a small bet on him to follow up that top-5 finish last weekend to clinch a spot in the BMW Championship with a strong first-round showing on Thursday. The odds for him to have a top-5 score in Round 1 are +800 at bet365. I’ll put a small wager on that and then see if he can carry the momentum forward from Sunday.

Tune into USA Network, Peacock and NBC Thursday-Sunday of this week to see which of the world’s top PGA golfers will advance to next week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.

• With the Paris Olympics in the rearview mirror, the PGA Tour continues this week in Memphis at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
• The biggest names on the tour will be in attendance this week, including Olympic gold medalist Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and more.
• Check out the next section for our favorite picks for this week’s PGA tournament.

• The PGA Tour heads to TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, this week for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which begins on Thursday morning. Fresh off winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, American Scottie Scheffler headlines a loaded field for this week’s PGA festivities. He’ll be joined by Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Åberg, Collin Morikawa and more of golf’s biggest names as the FedEX Cup playoffs officially get started. Thursday and Friday coverage can be found on the Golf Channel and Peacock. Saturday and Sunday rounds will also be broadcast on NBC.

St Jude Championship Picks

• Scottie Scheffler top 5 finish (-105)
• Rory McIlroy top 5 finish (+190)

This week begins the FedEx Cup playoffs, which means the top 70 players from the regular season standings will compete for points and a spot in next week’s BMW Championship. Only the top-50 points leaders will play next week, and only the top-30 points leaders will play in the Tour Championship at the end of the month.

Thus, it makes sense to back the top golfers to get off to hot starts. Scheffler is currently first in the FedEx Cup standings and McIlroy enters in third place. They’ve both played well at TPC Southwind over the years. And with Scheffler coming off a gold-medal finish in Paris, I like the odds for him to finish in the top 5 this week. You can find those odds at bet365 at -105.

McIlroy has even better odds for a top-5 finish. He currently stands at +190 on bet365. He finished tied for third place last year and has won 3 FedEx Cup titles, the most ever. He clearly is comfortable in the FedEx Cup playoffs, so getting him at +190 for a top-5 finish is a great value.

St Jude Championship Longshot Picks

• Tom Kim top 5 finish (+650)
• Tom Kim Round 1 leader (+3000)

My longshot picks for this week both center around Tom Kim, who has shown flashes of brilliance at times this year. He finished in 8th place at the Olympics, but was one of only 7 golfers to card sub-70 scores in all 4 rounds.

He was 2 strokes away from a top-5 finish in Paris, and has 2 top-5 finishes to his name already this season. At +650 odds via bet365 for a top 5 finish this week in Memphis, I like the value of a half-unit play.

If Kim is going to finish in the top 5 this week at TPC Southwind and make a push to advance to the BMW Championship next weekend with a top-50 points total, he’ll need to get off to a hot start on Thursday. At the Olympics, Kim’s best score was a Round 1 66. Only 5 golfers carded 66s or better in Round 1 in Paris.

Kim was one of 3 players with 66s in Round 1. Xander Schauffele (65) and bronze-medalist Hideki Matsuyama (63) were the only golfers to come in with scores under 66 in the first round of the Olympic tournament.

That’s some elite company Kim was in. At only 22 years of age, Kim is hitting his stride as a professional down the back stretch of this year. I expect him to continue that ascendance into the ranks of golf’s elite.

At +3000 to be the Round 1 leader, Kim provides incredible value, especially as a guy who has shown he can hang with the big boys and get off to hot starts in important tournaments.

• Men’s golf begins at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday with a loaded field including many of the world’s top golfers.
• Big names like Scottie Scheffler (USA), Xander Schauffele (USA) and Rory McIlroy (IRE) will be in attendance vying for the gold medal.
• Keep reading below to find out who we like for this week’s big Olympic men’s golf tournament.

• The 2024 Paris Olympics have been incredibly entertaining so far. Basketball, swimming, soccer and other sports have provided plenty of drama, and the track-and-field events haven’t even started yet. Neither has the men’s golf tournament, which tees off on Thursday morning. The world’s top golfers are in attendance, including Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele for Team USA. Can the United States claim gold (and possibly sweep the medal stand)? We’ll find out starting Thursday morning. Coverage can be found on NBC, the USA Network and the Peacock app.

Men’s Olympic Golf Picks

• Xander Schauffele top-3 finish (+240)
• Scottie Scheffler top-3 finish (+145)

Xander Schauffele is enjoying a breakthrough season. After years of coming close to winning a major without getting the job done, he’s claimed 2 major titles this season. He won the PGA Championship and The Open Championship, with the latter coming earlier this month.

He’s playing his best golf right now, and with the chance to claim an Olympic medal, he should stay hot. I like the value of betting him to finish on the medal stand at +240 on bet365. If you sign up for bet365 using promo code SBDXLM, you can claim a first-bet safety net worth up to $1,000 or $150 in bonus bets when you place a $5 wager.

Speaking of finishing on the medal stand, Scheffler is also hunting for his first Olympic medallion. Americans are performing quite well in these Olympics thus far, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to see 2 of them finish in the top 3. I like Scheffler at +145 to finish with at least a bronze this week.

Men’s Olympic Golf Longshot Picks

• Xander Schauffele to win (+650)
• Matthieu Pavon top-3 finish (+1800)

I’ve already detailed how good Schauffele has been lately. He’s won 2 majors this year and has 5 top-3 finishes. I’m in on him to finish in the top 3 this week, but at +650 odds, it’s also worth putting a smaller bet on him to win.

He’s having a season for the ages, rivaling what Scheffler has been able to do. I think the 2 Americans will push each other (in a good way) this weekend during the tournament, which should lead to great finishes for both guys.

As for another longshot top-3 bet, how about some home cooking for Matthieu Pavon of France? The 31-year-old from Toulouse won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines back in January. That very next week, he finished third at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

He recently missed the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open and finished tied for 50th place at The Open Championship, but he’ll be very motivated to have a strong performance in front of fans in his home country. The +1800 odds on him to finish in the top 3 over at bet365 are very enticing.

• The Open Championship tees off at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland on Thursday morning.
• The field is loaded with the top golfers from around the world, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and 2023 winner Brian Harman.
• Keep reading below for our top picks for this week’s big tournament in Scotland.

• The Open Championship begins on Thursday at Royal Troon in Scotland. It’ll be the last major of the 2024 PGA season, and the field is loaded, as you’d expect. Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and the world’s top golfers will compete starting Thursday morning. The Open Championship is the major where Scheffler has fared the worst in his career. His best finish was a tie for 8th place back in 2021. USA Network will have coverage of the tournament all 4 days, with NBC adding coverage on Saturday and Sunday for the final 2 rounds.

The Open Championship Picks

• Sahith Theegala top-10 finish (+400)
• Jordan Spieth to miss the cut (+162)

Theegala just finished tied for 4th at the Genesis Scottish Open. He carded scores of 66, 65, 66 and 69, struggling a bit on Sunday but still coming in under par to finish at -14. He has 6 top-10 finishes this year already and is playing some great golf over in Scotland. I think he has what it takes to finish at least 10th this week at Royal Troon.

Spieth, on the other hand, is very much not playing good golf right now. He’s having an awful year and I think that’ll continue this week. He missed the cut at the Scottish Open last week and has missed the cut 6 times total in 2024. With +162 odds over at bet365 to only make it through 2 rounds this week, I like the value to pick against Spieth. Hopefully his game improves in 2025, but I’m fading him for the rest of 2024.

The Open Championship Longshot Bets

• Sahith Theegala to win (+4000)
• Ludvig Åberg Round 1 leader (+2500)

I already explained above why I like Theegala to finish in the top 10. I’m going to be placing a smaller bet on him to win the whole thing this week at Royal Troon, too. He has the talent and is sure to be in the mix throughout the weekend.

Theegala hasn’t had much success in The Open yet, with his best finish being tied for 34th in 2022. But he’s a different golfer than he was back then and Royal Troon is different than the other Open courses he’s played.

Putting a unit on Theegala to finish top 10 and half a unit on him to win is the play I’m going with this week.

I expect that if Theegala is going to win, he’ll face a challenge from Ludvig Åberg. The rising star from Sweden was right there with Theegala at the Scottish Open as they both finished tied for 4th. I expect them to see a lot of each other this week, maybe even playing in the same group as they gun for their first major titles on Saturday and Sunday.

Åberg often does his best work out of the gates. In 4 of his last 6 tournaments, his Round 1 score was his best of the week. I think that continues at Royal Troon and Åberg will snag the lead on Thursday. Then it’ll be up to Theegala and others to chase him down starting Friday. Betting on Åberg to have the Round 1 lead at +2500 on bet365 is a good value.

The post John Deere Classic Best Bets, Picks & Predictions 2024 appeared first on Sports Betting Dime.

]]>
• The John Deere Classic begins on Thursday morning at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
• The field isn’t as star-studded as recent tournaments, but still features big-name golfers like Jordan Spieth, Sungjae Im and 2023 John Deere Classic winner Sepp Straka.
• Check the section below for our favorite picks for this weekend’s John Deere Classic.

• The John Deere Classic is the next tournament on the list for the 2024 PGA Tour, teeing off on Thursday morning in Silvis, Illinois. Last year’s winner, Sepp Straka, will return to defend his title, though most of the big-name golfers are taking this weekend off ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open next week. The purse for the John Deere Classic is $8 million. TV coverage will be handled by CBS, the Golf Channel, ESPN+ and Peacock.

John Deere Classic Picks

• Aaron Rai top-5 finish (+475)
• Sungjae Im top-10 finish (+190)

Odds via bet365 Sportsbook.

Rai is red hot right now. He just finished in a tie for second at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, finishing a stroke behind winner Cam Davis. He struggled a bit on Sunday with the pressure of trying to close out a victory, posting a 72 on the final day. But he still managed to finish tied for second even with those Sunday struggles.

Because of those issues when the pressure was highest, I’m not picking Rai to win this weekend’s tournament. But a top-5 finish seems very doable for one of the top golfers in the John Deere Classic field.

As for Im, he seems like a pretty safe bet to land in the top 10, so getting +190 odds is a big bonus. In his last 4 non-majors (the Wells Fargo Championship, the Charles Schwab Challenge, the Memorial Tournament and the Travelers Championship) he’s finished T4, T9, T8 and T3 overall.

All of those tournaments had deeper fields than the John Deere Classic. This week, Im is the favorite to win, boasting +1400 odds to Sepp Straka’s +1600. Im shows up big in non-majors, so I like him to once again find himself in the top 10.

John Deere Classic Longshot Picks

• Jordan Spieth to win (+2200)
• Sungjae Im Round 1 leader (+2800)

Spieth has been playing some atrocious golf lately. Here’s a look at his results since The Masters back in mid-April:

• Masters: Missed cut
• RBC Heritage: T39
• The CJ Cup Byron Nelson: Missed cut
• Wells Fargo Championship: T29
• PGA Championship: T43
• Charles Schwab Challenge: T37
• The Memorial Tournament: Missed cut
• US Open: T41
• Travelers Championship: T63

Yikes.

Spieth skipped the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week, and I’m going to go out on a limb to say the time away from the game helped him mentally and physically. The rest, combined with this being a weaker field, could be just what the doctor ordered. At +2200 odds on bet365, I’m willing to put a small wager on Spieth to win.

As for Im, he has the best odds to win the tournament this weekend, as mentioned earlier. Though he’s missed the cut in all 3 majors so far this year, he has great results when the pressure isn’t as high.

He should be able to get off to a hot start on Thursday on a course that should features plenty of low scores. There’s not a ton of value in betting Im to win the whole tournament, but there is more value if you think he’ll start the John Deere Classic on a strong note. I like Im to be in the lead after Round 1, which features +2800 odds on bet365. That’s a bit tastier, in my opinion.

Im tees off at 7:18 a.m. local time on Thursday morning, with Spieth following close behind at 7:29 a.m. Enjoy the John Deere Classic over this long holiday weekend!

The post Rocket Mortgage Classic Picks, Predictions & Best Bets 2024 appeared first on Sports Betting Dime.

• The Rocket Mortgage Classic begins on Thursday, June 27, at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan.
• Rickie Fowler won the event last year, while Tony Finau holds the tournament record by shooting -26 in 2022. Finau isn’t in the field this year, but Fowler is.
• Check out the section below for our top picks for the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

• The PGA Tour descends on Detroit Golf Club this week, following an exciting Travelers Championship that saw Scottie Scheffler take down Tom Kim in a playoff. Rickie Fowler won the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2023, but he has been struggling so far in 2024. You can find TV coverage of the tournament on the Golf Channel and Peacock on Thursday and Friday, with CBS handling coverage on Saturday and Sunday.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Picks

• Rickie Fowler Round 1 top-10 finish (+800)
• Tom Kim top-3 finish (+500)

Fowler won this tournament last year, as noted above. But he’s struggled mightily in 2024. Still, his first round at the Travelers Championship last week was good enough to have him in the top 10. He then struggled in the last 3 rounds and finished tied for 20th. Even if he can’t consistently put together 4 strong rounds of golf this year, he can still score at an elite level in certain rounds.

Thus, let’s take him to get off to a hot start again on Thursday. I like him to finish in the top 10 in Round 1, which has juicy +800 odds on bet365.

Kim, on the other hand, is coming off a loss to world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in the Travelers Championship. It went to a playoff before Kim ended up in a sand trap his second time playing hole No. 18. Even going up against the unstoppable force that Scheffler has been this season, Kim didn’t flinch. I don’t think he’ll be impacted mentally by his loss last week. He’ll build off of that momentum and score another top-3 finish this weekend. You can find that pick for +500 at bet365.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Longshot Picks

• Will Zalatoris Round 1 top-5 finish (+1200)
• Rickie Fowler to win (+7000)

Zalatoris has been struggling with his game lately, but like Fowler, he can still put together some incredible rounds. He shot a 64 in Round 1 of the Travelers Championship last week before falling apart in Round 2 with a 72. He finished tied for 42nd.

This is a guy who started the year with a bang, though. He has 3 top-10 finishes on his résumé so far in 2024 and we’ve seen him come through in big spots before. Yes, he missed the cut in the US Open a couple of weeks ago, but he can still swing it with the best of them when he’s on his game. His +1200 odds to finish in the top-5 of a weaker field are too good for me to pass up.

As for Fowler, I already discussed his 2024 season in the previous section. But this is a tournament he won just last year. If he’s going to get his game together at all this season, this is a great opportunity. He has the talent to get off to a hot start in Round 1 and then hold off challengers through the final 3 rounds.

Of course, he could also have another tournament with 1 good round and 3 duds. That’s the risk of betting on Fowler, but at +7000 odds on bet365, I will be putting a small wager on Fowler to defend his Rocket Mortgage Classic crown this weekend in Detroit.

Round 1 tees off on Thursday morning at Detroit Golf Club. Make sure you get your bets in before then to make every shot more exciting this week.

The post Travelers Championship Picks, Odds & Best Bets for 2024 appeared first on Sports Betting Dime.

• The Travelers Championship begins on Thursday in Connecticut, featuring a field of stars like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, Collin Morikawa and more.
• Last year’s Travelers Championship winner, Keegan Bradley, will also be in attendance, sporting +5000 odds to win.
• Check out the section below for our favorite picks and best bets for this week’s tournament.

• The Travelers Championship tees off on Thursday in Cromwell, Connecticut, at TPC at River Highlands course. Many of the world’s top golfers will be there, including current world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Coverage of the Travelers Championship can be found on the Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday, and on the Golf Channel and CBS on Saturday and Sunday.

Travelers Championship Picks

• Patrick Cantlay first-round top-5 finish (+700)
• Xander Schauffele to win (+750)

Cantlay is hot after the US Open. He finished third, 2 strokes behind winner Bryson DeChambeau. But his 2024 season as a whole has been a roller coaster.

There is one notable trend, though. When he cards low rounds, it’s usually on a Thursday. In 13 tournaments played so far this PGA season, he’s shot 65 or lower 5 separate times. He’s carded rounds of 67 or lower in 7 of his 13 opening rounds this year.

Basically, if he’s going to be in contention this weekend, he’s going to get off to a hot start on Thursday. Thus, I’ll take him to build on his momentum from a third-place finish last week to card a top-5 finish in Round 1 on Thursday. You can get that for +700 odds at bet365.

As for who will win the tournament, give me Xander Schauffele. He got his first major victory this year at the PGA Championship, getting that monkey off of his back. He’s playing some of the best golf of his life. And, to make things even sweeter, he won this tournament in 2022. He plays TPC at River Highlands well, and I expect that to continue this weekend.

At +750 odds, betting on him is a little more palatable from a value standpoint than putting money on Scottie Scheffler (+375). There should be a lot of scoring this week, and Schauffele should be right in the middle of the action.

Travelers Championship Longshot Picks

• Keegan Bradley to win (+5000)
• Rickie Fowler top-10 finish (+900)

It makes sense to sprinkle some money on Bradley to win. Not only did he win last year’s Travelers Championship, he set a course record with a 4-round total of 257 strokes. He hasn’t been playing super well so far this year, but he clearly likes TPC at River Highlands, so maybe it’ll spark him to victory once again. At +5000 odds, a small wager on Bradley could pay big dividends.

Fowler, on the other hand, has been terrible lately. He’s missed the cut at his last 2 tournaments and has had a bad year overall. But the talent is there. If he can get hot, he can be in contention throughout the weekend. Call it a hunch, but I think this could be the week Fowler gets it together. He won’t win, but a top-10 finish is within the realm of possibilities.

Will Rory McIlroy play this weekend?

After falling to Bryson DeChambeau by 1 stroke at the US Open last weekend, McIlroy has decided to take some time off to work on his game before a pair of important tournaments in Europe.

McIlroy, a native of Northern Ireland, said he’ll be taking some time away before the Genesis Scottish Open (which he won last year) on July 14 and the start of The Open Championship at Royal Troon in Scotland.

McIlroy hasn’t won a major since the PGA Championship in August of 2014. Since then, he’s had 11 top-5 finishes in majors, including last week’s second-place finish at the US Open.

Will he claim another trophy or two in Scotland next month? We’ll see how this break impacts his game, for better or for worse.

• The US Open begins on Thursday morning at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
• Last year, Wyndham Clark won the US Open title. This year, he has +7000 odds to repeat as the champion.
• Check out the section below for our picks for the US Open.

• The US Open tees off in North Carolina on Thursday morning. Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and all the biggest names in golf will be there competing for a major title. The first round begins at 6:30 a.m. ET and coverage will be handled by the USA Network and Fubo.

US Open Best H2H Picks

• Sahith Theegala over An Byeong-hun (-130)
• Max Homa over Hideki Matsuyama (-105)

There aren’t many sportsbooks out there offering head-to-head bets for Round 1, but DraftKings has you covered. Two picks that I like that have good value are Sahith Theegala to best An Byeong-hun in Round 1 (at -130 odds) and Max Homa to take down Hideki Matsuyama in the first round on Thursday at -105 odds.

Homa finished tied for third in The Masters this year, so he can perform under pressure. Theegala finished tied for 12th at the PGA Championship, which was his second-best finish in a major to date. I like him to post a lower score than An Byeong-hun on Thursday morning.

US Open Longshots to Target

• Max Homa (+5000)
• Wyndham Clark (+7000)
• Will Zalatoris (+7000)

The above odds are via bet365 as of Thursday, June 12. Use our bet365 bonus code SBDXLM to secure $150 in bonus bets when you place an initial wager of at least $5 today.

There isn’t much value in betting Scottie Scheffler to win tournaments these days. He’s +300 on bet365 to win this weekend. So unless you’re super-confident in his impending victory, it’s probably best to sprinkle some money on some guys with longer odds.

I’m going with the aforementioned Homa at +5000 odds, Wyndham Clark at +7000 and Will Zalatoris (+7000) as my 3 longshot picks. Homa has all the talent in the world. He has played some incredible rounds, but sometimes struggles with consistency. If (and it’s a big if) he can put together 4-straight great rounds, his talent level is high enough to claim his first major.

As mentioned earlier, Clark was last year’s US Open champion. He knows what it takes to win at this tournament. Even though it’s at a different course than it was in 2023, Clark is accustomed to the pressure. If he’s in the mix on Sunday, his experience should be a big help.

Finally, give me Will Zalatoris as a longshot option. What’s my thinking? Well, we just saw Xander Schauffele win the PGA Championship after finishing as the runner up in a few different majors. Zalatoris has finished second in the PGA Championship (2022), the Masters (2021) and tied for second at the US Open (2022).

He has an impressive 7 top-10 finishes in majors to his name. Basically, the talent is there and he’s probably going to win a major at some point, so why not this weekend? If he can shed his “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” status, he’ll join Schauffele as a former Robin who finally gets his turn to be Batman.

Scheffler’s odds have actually gotten slightly longer from where they opened on Sunday night (+290) but he remains the shortest favorite at a major since Tiger Woods in 2009.

The 39-year-old Kaymer, who now plays on the LIV Golf tour, is listed at +30000 to win for a second time at Pinehurst.

Scheffler Enters 2024 US Open Red-Hot

Scheffler’s incomprehensible hot streak continued last weekend with a win at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, OH. Scheffler looked mortal on Sunday, firing a two-over 74 in tough conditions but that was enough hold off Collin Morikawa for a one-stroke victory at Muirfield.

Scheffler has now won five tournaments on tour already this season and hasn’t finished worse than T10 in any of his last eleven starts. All five of his victories have come in his last eight tournaments, and he also has a pair of T2s in that span and a T8 at the first major of the season, the PGA Championship.

Scheffler widened his already-massive lead in Strokes Gained after his victory at Muirfield. Scheffler now sits at +2.913 while second-ranked Xander Schauffele is back at 2.223 an third-ranked Rory McIlroy is at just 1.662. The gap between Scheffler and fourth-ranked Alex Noren (1.238) is bigger than the gap between Noren and 143rd-ranked Alejandro Tosti (-0.434).

Schauffele Continues Strong 2024

If it wasn’t for Scheffler’s current tear, a lot more people in the golf world would be talking about world #2 Xander Schauffele. After a T8 at Muirfield last week, the 30-year-old has now finished in the top ten in five of his last six tournaments, including his first-even major victory at the PGA Championship three weeks ago.

As mentioned, Schauffele is second in overall Strokes Gained this season, which includes sitting second in SG: Tee-to-Green, sixth in SG: Approach the Green, and seventh in SG: Off-the-Tee.

Schauffele also has a rock-solid history at the US Open: in seven previous starts, he’s never finished worse than T14 and each of his other six appearances results in a top-ten finish. His best was a T3 back in 2019 at Pebble Beach. Last year at Los Angeles Country Club, he finished T10 at -3.

2024 US Open Picks

• Xander Schauffele top-ten finish (+130)
• Scottie Scheffler to win (+320)

Scheffler Records Tenth Straight Top-Ten Finish

The run Scottie Scheffler is on at the moment is the best on the PGA Tour since prime Tiger Woods. The world #1 is coming off a T2 at the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago, his tenth straight top-ten finish. His current run includes four victories and another three top-three finishes. While Xander Schauffele is doing his best to close the distance, the gap between Scheffler and everyone else in terms of Strokes Gained (SG) is massive. Scheffler is currently at 2.842 while Schauffele is second at 2.265, a difference of 0.577.

At the end of last season, Scheffler was first in SG at 2.314 while McIlroy was second at 2.102 (a difference of just .212).

And the gap between second-ranked Schauffele and third-ranked McIlroy is almost as big (0.542), meaning the gap between Scheffler and everyone not named Xander Schauffele is over one full stroke, which is an insane distance at this stage of the season.

Scheffler also has a strong history at the Memorial. He finished third at Muirfield in each of his last two starts (2023 and 2021) and was T22 in his only other start back in 2020.

Schauffele Also Enters 2024 Memorial Red-Hot

The #2 ranked player in the world, Xander Schauffele won his last start at the PGA Championship two weeks ago, which was also his fifth top-ten finish in his last six starts.

Schauffele’s history at Muirfield is solid but not spectacular. Since missing the cut in his first appearance in 2018, he has recorded five straight top-25 finishes in the last five years, but zero top tens. His best finish at the Memorial was a T11 back in 2021. He was T24 here last year.

Defending-Champion Hovland Trending Down in 2024

While Viktor Hovland is getting a lot of love from oddsmakers as the defending champ and the #5 player in the world, his 2024 campaign has paled in comparison to what he accomplished last year. The 26-year-old Norwegian didn’t finish better than T19 in any of his first seven starts (including one missed cut) before claiming third at the PGA Championship two weeks ago.

He currently sits just 46th on tour in overall Strokes Gained (0.534) after finishing last season in eighth (1.648).

Hovland didn’t finish better than T47 in any of his other three appearances at Muirfield.

Once the H2H props come out, I will be looking to fade Hovland depending whom he’s up against. For now, I have top finishing-position picks for Scheffler and Schauffele, the clear top-two in the world at the moment.

2024 Memorial Tournament Picks

• Scheffler top-five finish (-125)
• Schauffele top-five finish (+200)

The post Canadian Open Odds, Predictions & Picks appeared first on Sports Betting Dime.

]]>
• The RBC Canadian Open begins on Thursday, May 30, at Hamilton Golf Club in Ontario.
• A field including 2-time RBC Canadian Open champion Rory McIlroy and 2023 winner Nick Taylor will compete for this year’s crown.
• Read below for the top picks for the RBC Canadian Open this weekend.

• The PGA Tour comes to Canada this week, with Round 1 of the RBC Canadian Open taking place on Thursday. Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Nick Taylor headline this year’s field of golfers. The course will play at par 70 with 7,084 yards to cover. TV coverage of the event will be handled by Golf Channel and CBS, with ESPN+, Paramount+ and Peacock providing stream coverage.

Canadian Open Picks

• Nick Taylor top-5 finish (+1100)
• Nick Taylor first-round top-10 finish (+700)

Let’s keep these picks Canadian in flavor, eh? Last year’s winner, Nick Taylor, was the first Canadian citizen to win the Canadian Open in 69 years and the first player actually born in Canada to win since all the way back in 1914.

The Winnipeg native has been up and down with his game this year, but he did win the WM Phoenix Open back in February in a playoff over Charley Hoffman. Interestingly enough, he won last year’s Canadian Open in a playoff over Tommy Fleetwood. So we know Taylor is good in do-or-die situations.

In his home country, I expect Taylor to be at his best. While he might not play well enough to claim his second-straight Canadian Open crown, he should be in the mix all weekend long. Those odds for a top-5 finish are enticing. If you can get them at +1000 or better, that’s great value.

If Taylor is going to be in the mix, he’ll have to get off to a hot start. Thus, the +700 odds for him to card a top-10 finish in Round 1 are also tasty. In the 2023 event, he struggled in Round 1, carding a 75 before shooting 67, 63 and 66 in the final 3 rounds.

Now that he’s won the event, however, I expect him to be more comfortable out of the gates this time around.

Shane Lowry +2000

Corey Conners +2200
Sam Burns +2500
Cameron Young +2500
Alex Noren +2500
Adam Scott +3300
Maverick McNealy +3500

As you can see above, Rory McIlroy is by far the favorite to win his third Canadian Open crown. He’s the only one with better than +1800 odds to win the title.

Nick Taylor, discussed at length in the above section, is +5000 to win at Hamilton Golf Club this weekend, if you think he’ll do even better than a top-5 finish.

Corey Conners is the Canadian with the best odds, checking in at +2200, but he hasn’t been playing his best golf as of late. He finished tied for 38th in this year’s Masters and tied for 26th in the PGA Championship. Those aren’t bad results, of course, but he hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since the Valero Texas Open last year.

Basically, through parsing some of these outright win odds, if you believe anyone other than McIlroy is going to win, there’s excellent value to be had and plenty of money to be made!

The table below shows the odds to win the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge for the top-30 favorites, plus top-five and top-ten finish odds.

2024 Charles Schwab Challenge Odds

Golfers Odds to Win Top Five Top Ten
Scottie Scheffler +275 -125 -250

Daniel Berger +6000 +1200 +550
Thomas Detry +6000 +1200 +550
Taylor Moore +6000 +1200 +550
Austin Eckroat +6000 +1200 +550
Akshay Bhatia +6000 +1200 +550
Lucas Glover +6500 +1200 +550
Maverick McNealy +6500 +1200 +550
Taylor Moore +6500 +1200 +550

Scheffler is listed at a hyper-short +275, which carries an implied win probability of 26.67%. In other words, he has to win the tournament more than one out of every four times to have positive expected value (+EV) at that price.

Second-favorite Morikawa is at just +1400, which has an implied win probability of just 6.67%. Indeed, if you add up the implied win probability of the next six players on the board (down to Sungjae Im), you would only get to 24.57%. Put another way, the odds imply that Scheffler has a better chance to win the tournament than second though seventh-favorite combined.

Scheffler’s Dominance Put on Hold

Scheffler entered the PGA Championship with four wins in five starts – with the fifth being a T2 at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. The two-time Masters-winner looked poised for a run at his third major title after two rounds, sitting just three back of the lead heading into the third round. But round three started with two bogeys and a double-bogey in his first four holes and he never recovered, carding a two-over 73 and falling eight off the lead. He bounced back with a six-under 65 on Sunday to move into eighth but he never threatened the leaders in round four.

In what felt like an April Fools joke, Scheffler was arrested trying to drive into the Valhalla parking lot ahead of Friday’s second round. Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault and reckless driving after allegedly disobeying instructions from officers, who had blocked off certain areas following a fatality.

Scheffler (2.851) still has a massive lead in Strokes Gained this season, even though second-ranked Xander Schauffele (1.990) won the PGA. Scheffler is first in three of the five Strokes Gained categories tracked by the PGA (Off-the-Tee, Tee-to-Green, and Approach the Green) and is fifth in Around the Green. SG: Putting continues to be the only area where he’s not top five, sitting a distant 97th.

Scheffler has a solid history at Colonial Country Club, which is just half an hour from his hometown of Dallas. He finished T3 here last year at -7 and lost in a playoff to Sam Burns in the 2022 edition at -9.

Morikawa Reeling After Poor Finish

Second-favorite and two-time major winner Collin Morikawa was tied for the lead with eventual winner Schauffele heading into the final round of the PGA Championship on Sunday, but he didn’t record a single birdie until the 18th hole and finished T4 at -15, six shots back.

Morikawa hasn’t won on tour this season and he sits just 59th in overall Strokes Gained but the PGA was his fourth straight top-20 finish and moved him back into the top 10 of the OWGR.

Morikawa’s results at Colonial have been trending in the wrong direction. In his first start at the Charles Schwab in 2020, he lost in a playoff to Daniel Berger in 2020. He was T14 in 2021, T40 in 2022, and T29 in 2023.

Charles Schwab Challenge Picks & Predictions

Unless Scheffler’s arrest is going to have more of a lasting impact than it appears at first glance, I do actually like his odds to finish in the top five at -125. The 27-year-old is head-and-shoulders above his competition right now. The chances that someone in the field will put together a magical week and win the trophy are significant enough that I don’t want to bet Scheffler to win at +275, but the chances that five golfers outduel him on a course he clearly loves are not high.

Another golfer I’m targeting is last year’s winner Emiliano Grillo. The Argentinian is listed at +165 to be the top South American, up against an uninspiring field of Alejandro Tosti, Nico Echavarria, and Camilo Villegas. Grillo isn’t having a great season, but at #54 in the OWGR, he is 52 spots higher than any of his South American competitors. He also ranks highest in Strokes Gained this year among the quartet, at least 31 spots better than the other three.

• Scheffler top-five finish (-125)
• Grillo top South American (+165)

• The 2024 PGA Championship will take place at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, KY, the fourth time the legendary course has hosted the tournament but the first since 2014, when Rory McIlroy captured his second PGA Championship title. That was also the last time the Ulsterman won a major.

But, coming off a vintage performance against a world-class field at the Wells Fargo Championship just last week, McIlroy sits second in the 2024 PGA Championship odds, trailing only undisputed world #1 Scottie Scheffler.

The table below shows the odds to win and finish in the top five and top ten for each of the top-25 favorites at this year’s tournament (plus Tiger Woods).

As he’s going to do until showing any hint of fallibility, Scheffler enters as the heavy favorite at +450, which carries a 18.18% implied win probability. At +750 (11.76% implied win probability), McIlroy is a close second-favorite and the only other player shorter than +1500.

Xander Schauffele +1500 (6.25%) is the solo third-favorite, while Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka round out the top five, both at +1600 (5.88%).

Scheffler Enters on Insane Run

Scottie Scheffler enters the 2024 PGA Championship on a run not seen since prime Tiger Woods. Scheffler has won four of his last five tournaments and finished T2 in the other. That includes victories over top-tier fields at THE PLAYERS, the Masters, and the Arnold Palmer.

Scheffler’s wins at the 2022 and 2024 Masters remain his only major victories, but he’s had plenty of success at the PGA, finishing in the top ten in three of the last four editions, including T2 last year at Oak Hill. (Scheffler has also finished top ten at the US Open each of the last three years.)

The disparity between Scheffler and the rest of the PGA tour has become alarming. The 27-year-old leads the tour in Strokes Gained (2.851) by a wide margin. The gap between Scheffler and second-place Schauffele is bigger than the gap between Schauffele and ninth-placed Hideki Matsuyama.

Scheffler ranks first in SG: Off-the-Tee (0.957), SG: Tee-to-Green (2.835), and SG: Approach the Green (1.398). The only category where he isn’t in the top five is SG: Putting (97th).

McIlroy Finds His Footing

I was fading Rory heading into last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, and the 35-year-old made me look foolish, carding a final-round 65 to win by five strokes over Schauffele and eight over the rest of the field.

Heading into that tournament, McIlroy only had one solid PGA victory since the 2022 CJ Cup (the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open), though he did win the 2024 Zurich Classic with partner Shane Lowry two weeks before his triumph at the Wells Fargo. He also captured the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour in January over the likes of Cameron Young, Joaquin Niemann, and Nicolai Højgaard.

McIlroy remains second in the Official World Golf Rankings, though a distant second to Scheffler. He’s won the PGA Championship twice, including the last time it was played at Valhalla (2014). His other victory came in 2012 at Kiawah Island in South Carolina.

PGA Championship Predictions & Picks

2024

I ordinarily scoff at short favorites in PGA events, especially when the field is as deep and talented as it will be this week at Valhalla. But Scheffler’s play at the moment is other-worldly. He’s the best golfer on the planet by leagues. I compared him to prime Tiger Woods earlier and I’m doubling down on that now.

Another golfer I’m targeting this week is young Swede Ludvig Åberg. The 24-year-old has made 16 straight cuts on tour. In that span, he earned his first career victory (2023 RSM Classic), finished second at his first career major (2024 Masters), and has eight total top-ten finishes.

Åberg currently ranks eighth in Strokes Gained and has been matched up against Justin Thomas in the H2H betting markets. Thomas has three top tens in ten starts this year, but he’s also missed three cuts in his last seven events. The two-time PGA Championship-winner finished T65 at last year’s tournament. He sits just 31st in Strokes Gained and, coincidentally, has faded to 31st in the OWGR.

• Scheffler to win (+450)
• Åberg over Thomas (-140) – two units

Max Homa won the event in 2022 but note that it was held at a different course that year (TPC Potomac in Maryland). That marked just the second time in the tournament’s 20-year history that it wasn’t held at Quail Hollow. The other came in 2017, when Brian Harman won at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, NC.

McIlroy Not Having a Great Season (So Far)

World #2 Rory McIlroy started 2024 strong, notching a win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and a T2 at the Dubai Invitational, both on the DP World Tour. But his results in 2024 PGA events have been much less auspicious. In eight tournaments, McIlroy only has one top-20 finish: a third-place at the Valero Texas Open. On the bright side, he hasn’t missed a cut, but the 35-year-old Ulsterman can’t be satisfied with his season to date, sitting 20th on tour in strokes gained.

While the three-time Wells Fargo-winner has obviously had his share of success at Quail Hollow, McIlroy finished just T47 at the 2023 edition, which was won in a runaway by Wyndham Clark, who’s -19 score was four strokes clear of the field.

Clark has had an up-and-down start to 2024, but the highs have been extremely high. Clark has already won AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finished second at both THE PLAYERS and the Arnold Palmer, and third at the RBC Heritage last time out. But he’s also missed the cut twice, including at The Masters. He currently sits second to Scheffler in strokes gained in 2024, though it’s a distant second (2.851 vs 1.780).

Schauffele Playing Well and Has Strong History at Quail Hollow

World #3 Xander Schauffele finished runner-up to Clark at the 2023 Wells Fargo and was T14 in 2021. He hasn’t won any of his ten starts in 2024 but he also hasn’t missed a cut and has seven top-ten finishes in those ten events. He is currently third behind Scheffler and Clark in strokes gained, fractionally trailing the latter. He managed a T18 last time out at the RBC Heritage.

His only other two starts at the Wells Fargo were a T24 in 2017 and a T72 in 2018, meaning he’s made the cut in all five of his starts at the tournament.

Wells Fargo Championship Predictions

Schauffele’s 2024 track record is hard to ignore. Outside of Scheffler, he’s been the most-consistent player on tour this season, finishing top ten in 70% of his tournaments so far. Add in his strong history at Quail Hollow and I like the American in his head-to-head matchup with three-time winner Rory McIlroy who, as mentioned, is just 20th in strokes gained during the 2024 PGA season.

I am also going to ride with Clark in his head-to-head matchup with Max Homa. Homa’s win at the Wells Fargo came at a different course and, while his finished T8 here last year, he missed the cut in 2021 and isn’t in particularly good form in 2024. He has two top-ten finishes in ten tournaments along with a missed cut. He currently sits a thoroughly pedestrian 48th in strokes gained and has already dropped three spots (from 7th to 10th) in the OWGR since the end of 2023.

Wells Fargo Championship 2024 picks:

• Schauffele (+105) over McIlroy
• Clark (-130) over Homa

• “A tradition unlike any other” returns this week when the 2024 Masters Tournament tees off from Augusta National Golf Club in August, GA, on Thursday, April 11.

To no one’s surprise, world #1 Scottie Scheffler enters the 2024 Masters as the betting favorite, but his short price to top this year’s 89-man field may catch some off guard. Scheffler is listed at +400 to win his second Green Jacket. No other player is shorter than +1000.

Sam Burns +5500 +1000 +400
Tyrell Hatton +5500 +1100 +450

Rory McIlroy is the second-favorite at +1000 followed by reigning-champion Jon Rahm at +1200. Xander Schauffele (+1600) and Brooks Koepka (+1800) round out the top-five betting favorites. Check out Fanatics Sportsbook for the latest Masters odds boosts and a $1k sign-up promo today!

Scheffler Comes into Masters Red Hot

Scheffler’s short price starts to look more reasonable when juxtaposed with his recent results. The world #1 has two wins in his last three starts (including against world-class fields at THE PLAYERS and the Arnold Palmer) and finished T2 in the other. He’s finished in the top ten in six of his seven events in 2024, and no worse that T17 (The American Express).

Scheffler leads the PGA Tour in strokes gained by a massive margin. At 2.812, Sheffler is nearly a full stroke ahead of second-ranked Xander Schauffele (1.943). The gap between Scheffler and Schauffele is bigger than the gap between Schauffele and 13th-ranked Si Woo Kim (1.083).

Rahm Has Been Solid in LIV Golf

Reigning Masters-winner Jon Rahm will be playing his first PGA event since moving to LIV Golf at the end of the 2023 season. The 29-year-old Spaniard hasn’t won a LIV tournament yet, but he also hasn’t finished worse than T8 in the 50-plus-player fields. He has three top-fives in five LIV events in 2024, most-recently finishing T4 at LIV Golf Miami last week.

Rahm has a phenomenal history at Augusta; in seven starts, he has one win (2022) and four more top-ten finishes. He’s never finished worse than T27.

Rahm sits third in the OWGR rankings (trailing Scheffler and McIlroy) and third in the OWGR’s strokes-gained metric (trailing Scheffler and Schauffele).

Shane Lowry Trending Up at Augusta

Irishman Shane Lowry had a rough go in his first several tries at the Masters, missing the cut in three of four starts from 2015 to 2019. But his last four starts at Augusta have been much better. Lowry has made the cut in all four and finished no lower than 25th, including a career-best T3 in the 2022 edition.

Lowry comes into the 2024 Masters playing well. He’s finished top-20 in three straight PGA events, most-recently finishing T19 at THE PLAYERS. His best result this season was a solo third-place at the Arnold Palmer. He ranks seventh on tour in strokes gained

Masters Predictions 2024

I’m not prepared to wager on Scheffler at such short prices, but I do like the value on Rahm to finish in the top ten (+125). I am also going to take Lowry to win his head-to-head matchup against Sahith Theegala and Tommy Fleetwood. Fleetwood has made the cut at six straight Masters but never finished better than T14. The 26-year-old Theegala finished ninth last year in his first-ever Masters and is showing a ton of promise, but I will still bet on Lowry’s experience winning out.

I’ll likely add another H2H pick when the two-player matchups are posted.

2024 Masters picks:

• Rahm top-ten finish (+125)
• Lowry (+180) over Theegala and Fleetwood

Sascha Paruk’s 2024 PGA Tour betting record:

• Overall: 6-9 (-3.25 units)
• H2H picks: 4-1 (+2.25 units)
• Nationality picks: 1-0 (+1.10 units)
• Top-X finish picks: 1-8 (-6.60 units)

Conners Playing Well Ahead of Texas Open Title Defense

Corey Conners has made the cut in 15 straight PGA events dating back to last season and though he’s yet to record a top-ten finish this year, he had three top tens in his final seven starts of 2023. He’s coming off a T13 at THE PLAYERS in his last start. Before that, he finished T18 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He hasn’t finished worse than T57 this season.

Conners is currently 40th on tour in strokes gained and was 22nd during the 2022-23 PGA season.

Conners only has two wins on the PGA Tour and both came in the Texas Open. In addition to his 2023 victory, he also claimed the crown in 2019. That said, I’m not looking seriously at him in the tournament outrights at +2500 (3.8% implied win probability). But I do expect him to play well again at a course he clearly likes. Conners was also T35 (-5) in 2022 and T14 in 2021 (-6).

Alex Noren Regaining His Form

Though he’s on the wrong side of 40, Alex Noren is relocating the form that had him in the top-20 of the OWGR from 2016 to 2018. The 41-year-old Swede has started the 2024 season with a string of seven straight made cuts and has finished top 20 in his last three events: T9 at the Cognizant Classic, T19 at THE PLAYERS, and T11 at last weeks’ Houston Open. He currently ranks eighth on tour in strokes gained.

Noren has only played the Texas Open once, but it was an encouraging T15 last year at -7.

This week, Noren has been matched up with Collin Morikawa in the head-to-head odds for the Texas Open, with the Swede listed as a modest -130 favorite.

After a T5 in his first start of the season at The Sentry, Morikawa’s season has taken a downward turn. He’s missed two cuts in his last five events and is coming off a T45 at THE PLAYERS. This will also be the 27-year-old’s first ever start at the Texas Open.

Morikawa is just 69th in strokes gained during the 2024 PGA season.

2024 Valero Texas Open Predictions

• Conners top Canadian finisher (+110) over Pendrith, Silverman, Sloan, and Svensson
• Noren (-130) over Morikawa

Sascha Paruk’s 2024 PGA Tour betting record:

• Top-five picks: 1-0 (+1.40 units)

Brian Harman Continues Strong 2024 at PLAYERS

Dating back to last season, lefty Brian Harman has made the cut in 17 straight PGA Tournaments. He started 2024 with a T5 at The Sentry and, most recently, finished T2 at THE PLAYERS. He was also T12 at the Arnold Palmer the week prior and, at age 37, has moved up to a career-best 8th in the OWGR.

Harman currently sits 13th on the Tour in strokes gained for 2024 and has some encouraging history at the Copperhead Course. Though he missed the cut here last season, he finished T5 in 2022 at -14.

Sam Burns Has Strong History at Copperhead

It’s impossible to ignore Sam Burns’ history at the Copperhead Course. The 27-year-old won the Valspar in both 2021 and 2022. Last year, he finished sixth at -5, five strokes back of Moore. In 2019, he was T30 and, in 2018, he was T12.

Burns has also had a strong start to his 2024 season, making the cut in all seven events he’s played (giving him a streak of 12 dating back to last year) and finishing in the top ten four times in those seven tries.

He only finished T45 at THE PLAYERS last week, dropping him to 20th in strokes gained for the season, but on the whole, his recent form and his history at this course portends good things from the LSU alum.

Doug Ghim Is on the Rise

Still just 118th in the world rankings, 27-year-old Doug Ghim is currently playing the best golf of his life. Ghim has made the cut in five straight tournaments and finished top-20 in all five. He was T13 at the Farmers (-8), T12 at the Waste Management (-12), T8 and the Mexico Open (-12), T16 at the Cognizant Classic (-11), and T16 again against an uber-strong field last week at THE PLAYERS (-10).

Last year, he managed a T27 at the Valspar. His only previous appearance came in 2021 when he missed the cut at even par after two rounds.
